PORTALES, N.M. – Eastern New Mexico Baseball (3-2, 3-2 LSC) fell in its home opener, 8-5, against St. Edward's (4-1, 4-1 LSC) on Friday afternoon at Greyhound Baseball Field.

Eastern scored five runs from just six hits during the game, as six different Greyhounds had a hit during the game. Luciano Terilli and Anthony Cortese both hit two-run home runs each, while Jordan Rodriguez picked up an RBI on a sacrifice fly. Terilli's long ball has hit to deep left center, while Cortese hit a towering shot over the left field fence.

On the hill, Roman Connolly takes the loss, throwing 3.0+ innings with seven runs allowed. Demitrius DiMatteo had a strong relief outing, giving up just one run over five innings of work. Logan Kinter pitched the final frame for the Greyhounds.

In total, the Hilltoppers supplied 18 hits during the game, with just four going for extra bases. Eastern trailed 5-0 midway through the 3rd, but a two-run blast from Terilli brought life to the Hounds. Daniel Pruitt walked on a full count to reach base, then Terilli lifted a ball over the left field wall with two outs to get ENMU on the board. Later in the 6th inning, Cortese had his own two run blast, scoring Jalen Freeman who reached on a single to right field. ENMU did have an opportunity in the 9th to tie the game, as the tying run reached base, but the Hilltoppers closed the door to take the series opener.
