PORTALES, N.M. – Eastern New Mexico Woman's Basketball (15-8, 10-7 LSC) picked up a crucial home victory on Saturday afternoon, 71-66, against UT Permian Basin (12-11, 10-7 LSC) at Steve Loy Family Foundation Arena.
Nine different Greyhounds scored over six points in the game, as
Nataya Lockett led the charge with 16 points (6-10 FG, 2-3 #PTFG).
Ishuana Hunter posted 10 points from the bench, while
Kaitlyn Edmondson added nine points on 4-4 shooting.
Julieta Ceja led the rebounding effort with seven, along with six points in a team high 33 minutes.
Jayla Smith (9 pts) and
Tatiana Platonova (8 pts) both made important contributions from the bench.
Both teams played a back and forth game, with the largest lead being just nine points during the game (ENMU at 8:22 in 4
th QTR (52-44)). Both teams traded baskets to open the game, as Eastern edged out a halftime lead, 34-32. To open the 3
rd quarter, a Lockett layup and
Abbi Holder three-pointer put ENMU ahead by seven. Later in the game, a UTPB three made the contest a one possession game with two minutes to play. A timely three from
Victoria Barrera reestablished a five-point lead, with the Greyhounds hitting several free throws down the stretch to beat the Falcons.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
- The Greyhounds found 32 points in the paint while the Hounds bench scored 27 points. UT Permian Basin was held to just four threes' during the game (averaged over 8.0 made threes per game), finding 32 points in the paint.
- The Greyhounds finished shooting 55.3% from the floor, while hitting 7-19 three-pointers (36.8%), and 60.0% at the foul line (12-20). UTPB compiled a 44.6 field goal percentage, going 4-18 from three (22.2%), and 12-16 at the foul line.
- Eastern snapped a three-game losing streak against the Falcons, winning for the first time since 2023 against UTPB.
- ENMU heads on the road for its next game, facing Western New Mexico in an in-state rivalry. The two teams meet on Thursday, February 13, in Silver City, beginning at 5:30 p.m.
