PORTALES, N.M. – Eastern New Mexico Baseball (12-11, 10-11 LSC) battled closely with #4 UT Tyler (20-6, 20-5 LSC), but the Patriots scored late to seal a 7-4 victory on Saturday afternoon at Greyhound Baseball Field.
Eastern outhit the Patriots, 12-10, as eight different Greyhounds recorded a base hit, and four finished with multiple hits.
Demetrio Archuleta paced the team with a pair of hits, while finishing with three RBIs in the game.
Dylan Shea also finished with a pair of hits, including a home run, while
Luciano Terilli and
Anthony Cortese each had a pair of singles.
On the hill,
Chase Rozell got the start going 4.1 innings pitched with four walks and three strikeouts. The left-hander allowed four runs during their time on the mound, with three of the four runs being earned. Three relief pitchers each allowed a run, with
Adrian Rubio tossing 2.2 innings.
Logan Kinter and
Demitrius DiMatteo each gave up one run over one inning of work.
The Greyhounds took the early lead, grabbing a run in the second and third inning. In the second frame,
Anthony Cortese started with a single, then later came home on a two-out double from
Demetrio Archuleta. In the following inning,
Dylan Shea turned on the first pitch of the third inning for a solo blast to left field, 2-0 ENMU.
However, the Patriots used a big four run inning to go in front during the fifth. A walk, and an error got two runners on base, allowing a double to score the Patriots first run. The next batter homered to center field to put UTT ahead 4-2. UTT put on another run in the 7
th, but ENMU mounted a small comeback in the 8
th. With the bases loaded and two outs, Archuleta singled through the ride side to score two runs, 5-4 UTT. The Patriots plated a pair of insurance runs in the 9
th, winning the game 7-4.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
- Rozell made their first start of the season, going a season long 4.1 innings, taking the loss. Rawley Hector earned the win for the Patriots, throwing 7.0 innings allowing two runs. Garrett Arredondo shutdown the final four outs, earning a save for UT Tyler.
- Archuleta set a season high for both hits and RBIs, while Shea hit his first home run of the season.
- Eastern New Mexico returns to Greyhound Baseball Field on Sunday, March 16, playing the Patriots in a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. and 4 p.m.
