PORTALES, N.M. – Eastern New Mexico Baseball (14-12, 12-12 LSC) fell during series finale against #4 UT Tyler (21-8, 21-7 LSC) on Monday afternoon dropping the nine-inning game, 9-5, at Greyhound Baseball Field. The two teams take a split of the series, as the Greyhounds won both games of seven inning doubleheader.
Both teams managed 11 hits during the game, with
Kyle Kiernan leading the Greyhounds going 3-5 with a solo home run.
Willie Ponce led the team with three RBIs, supplying a pair of hits in the game.
Daniel Pruitt also finished with two hits, as ENMU finished with four extra base hits.
Four pitchers took the mound, with
Nick Mooney starting the game and allowing seven runs over 3.1 innings in a loss.
Julian Lopez posted 2.2 scoreless frames, while
Jose Carranza faced one batter and
Demitrius DiMatteo struck out three batters over three innings with one unearned run.
Eastern took the first lead of the game, with Ponce scoring a pair of runs with a double in the first inning. Kiernan started the frame with a single, then
Luciano Terilli walked, setting up the RBI chance for Ponce. However, UT Tyler flipped the score with five runs in the second inning, taking a 5-2 lead. The Patriots tied the game with a 2-run single, then a 3-run home run gave the Patriots the advantage.
The Greyhounds cut the deficit to one run with a pair of runs in the 3
rd inning. Kiernan began the frame with a solo home run, then Terilli and Ponce combined with a double and single to make the score, 5-4. UT Tyler restored the three-run cushion with a pair of runs in the 4
th inning. UT Tyler added to its lead with two more runs in the 7
th, as ENMU only could find a consolation in the 8
th, as the Patriots came away with a 9-5 win.

- Eastern New Mexico hit the road for its next LSC series, traveling to Sul Ross State for a four-game series beginning on Friday, March 21.
