ALPINE, Texas – Eastern New Mexico Baseball (18-12, 16-12 LSC) capped off the weekend with a record setting performance during a 27-8 win over Sul Ross State (2-30, 2-30 LSC). With the win, the Greyhounds finished with a series sweep over the Lobos, winning all four games. In total, ENMU scored 85 runs over the four games.
The Greyhounds were dialed in for the series finale, finishing with 26 hits from nine different batters. Eight different hitters had multiple hits in the game, led by six hits (4 1B, 2B, and HR) from
Anthony Cortese.
Demetrio Archuleta went 5-7, finishing with three doubles, a home run, and six RBIs.
Willie Ponce and
Luciano Terilli each grabbed three hits, while both of
Daniel Pruitt's hits were home runs, accounting for five RBIs. All nine starters scored more than once, with seven different Greyhounds scoring more than three times. ENMU hitters took advantage of eight walks and four hit-by-pitch's.
On the mound, five different Greyhound pitchers took the hill.
Nick Mooney started the game, going two innings, while
Adrian Rubio was the first from the bullpen with two innings of relief, claiming the win.
Julian Lopez,
Chase Rozell, and
Jose Carranza each tossed one inning to end the game, as the ENMU pitchers combined for 14 strikeouts.
Eastern New Mexico got out to a big lead after the first two innings, leading 9-4. The Greyhounds plated eight runs in the first inning, with
Jalen Freeman taking the second pitch of the game over the fence in center field to start the big inning. Ponce registered a 2-RBI double later in the inning, while
Dylan Shea forced home a run with a hit-by-pitch.
Daniel Pruitt emptied the bases right after, hitting an opposite field grand slam to put ENMU ahead 8-0. Shea provided an RBI single in the top of the second, while Sul Ross State scored four runs in the bottom of the second get on the scoreboard.
The Greyhounds tacked on eight more runs in the 3
rd inning to reach the 17-run mark. Cortese doubled two runs home to begin the inning, while
Dominick Cassell and Freeman both brought home a run with a walk. Archuleta picked up three RBIs with a bases loaded double, then Terilli scored Archuleta with a single up the middle. Eastern supplied two more runs in the fourth, as RBIs singles from Cassell and Freeman made the score 20-7 after four innings.
ENMU hit three home runs in the 6
th inning, taking a 27-8 lead going into the final frame. Pruitt hit a solo home run to start the inning, while three batters later Archuleta supplied a three-run bomb. Ponce doubled, then scored on a passed ball, while Cortese crushed a solo home run. Eastern scored their final run of the game, when Cassell pushed home a run on an RBI hit-by-pitch.

- Cortese tied a program record with six hits in a game, with Derrick Kennedy (4/7/06 vs WT) and Tyler Hayes (3/7/08 vs TSU) also achieving the feat.
- Archuleta tied a career best for RBIs (6) and runs scored (4), while setting a career high for doubles (3) and total bases (11) in a single game. The 11 total bases are tied for 6th most all-time, last being achieved by his teammate, Terilli, in 2024.
- Freeman provided a season best four-RBIs for the third consecutive game, while hitting a home run in four straight games.
- 27 runs are the 3rd most in program history, while 26 hits in a single game is 6th most in ENMU history, along with the 25 RBIs sitting 4th in program records.
- Eastern scattered eight doubles in the game, setting a new school record, while the team's five home runs are tied for 3rd in program history. ENMU finished with 47 total bases, second most in program history.
- The team finished with 17 home runs over the weekend, bringing their season total to 36. The 36 runs so far are tied for 6th most by the team in a single season. Pruitt had five homers over the weekend, with his nine this season being in the top-10 for most in a single season, and his 16 ENMU career home runs being 7th all-time.
- Eastern New Mexico comes back home for its next games, opening up a four game series with Oklahoma Christian. The first game of the series is on Friday, March 28, beginning at 5 p.m. against the Eagles.
