WICHITA FALLS, Texas – Eastern New Mexico Softball took both games of a doubleheader in a shortened game, and a game going to extra inning on Friday afternoon at Mustangs Park. ENMU scored eight runs in the 6
th inning, taking game one in six innings, 9-1. During the second game, Midwestern State scored three runs in the 6
th inning to tie the game, but ENMU put up two runs in the 9
th inning to finish the game as 5-3 winners.
GAME ONE: ENMU 9, MSU 1 (6 Inn.)
After a blank first three innings, ENMU struck with a run in the 4
th inning.
Meilana Lopez started the inning with a triple to right field, then
Grace Rofii singled to the opposite field to bring Lopez to the plate. Two innings later, the Greyhounds took advantage of Midwestern State pitching, drawing six walks to score a handful of runs. With one out, ENMU drew four straight walks to take a 2-0 lead.
The Mustangs produced a strikeout, but another walk scored the Greyhounds third run. Marissa Rodirguez interrupted the streak of walks with RBI single, then a wild pitch scored the Greyhounds fifth run of the game and fourth of the inning. Another walk loaded the bases for
Skylar Hardin, who supplied a 2-RBI double to give ENMU a 7-0 advantage. ENMU added on more runs, with a fielding error from the Mustangs bringing home a pair of runs, giving the Greyhounds a 9-0 lead. Midwestern State did break up the shutout in the bottom of the inning, but it was a consolation run as the Greyhounds won the game by run-rule (9-1, 6 inn.)
NOTABLE STATS
- Eastern scored nine runs from nine hits, drawing 10 walks in the game, including six walks in the big 6th inning. Eight of the nine starters recorded a hit, with the only exception being Alondra Vasquez who finished 0-0 with three walks and a sacrifice bunt.
- Hardin finished with a pair of hits along with two RBIs, while four other Greyhounds picked up an RBI. Lopez' triple was the first of their career at ENMU, while Hardin had their fourth double of the season.
- Miranda Guillen notched their 12th complete game of the season, giving up just four singles and five walks. The lone run scored by the Mustangs came in the 6th inning, while finishing with three strikeouts.
- Addison Lindemann gets the loss, tossing 5.1 innings with four runs allowed on eight hits and six walks. Sydney Gonzales faced six batters walking four of them and giving up one hit, allowing five runs. Zoe Isom retired the only batter they faced, earning a strikeout.
GAME TWO: ENMU 5, MSU 3 (9 Inn.)
After getting out of a jam in the bottom of the first inning, ENMU combined three straight hits to take a 3-0 lead in the top of the second. Vasquez began the inning with a double, then Rodriguez followed with a single. Hardin came to the dish next and hooked a ball just inside the foul pole to give ENMU a 3-0 lead.

The Greyhounds survived another base runner jam in the bottom of the second, settling down over the next few innings, as the teams combined for just two hits over the next seven half innings. However, the Mustangs finally took advantage of a runners on base situation in the 6
th, scoring three runs. A bases loaded walk scored the first run, then a 2-RBI single tied the game.
Entering extra innings, ENMU broke the ice with two runs in the 9
th. Hardin reached base with a double, then Lopez followed with a single to put runners on the corners with one out. Rofii stepped in and drove home the leading run with a single to left field, giving ENMU a 4-3 lead.
Aylene Lucero added to the lead with a RBI single with two outs, as the Greyhounds led 5-3. Midwestern State did work a pair of walks in the final inning, but a strikeout, a pop up, and a foul out gave the Greyhounds a 5-3 road win against the Mustangs.
NOTABLE STATS
- ENMU outhit the Mustangs, 9-5, accounting for three extra base hits. Hardin led the hitting effort with a triple short of the cycle, going 3-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored. Lucero also finished with multiple hits, while grabbing an RBI.
- Cierra Smith had a solid outing as the starting pitcher, going 5.2 innings with three runs allowed working around four singles and six walks. Smith finished with five strikeouts, as Guillen earns the win in relief (13-5). The freshman struck out two batters, allowing two walks and a hit by pitch in 3.1 shutout innings.
- Kaliegh Bowers pitched 8.2 of the nine total innings for MSU, giving up five runs on nine hits with four strikeouts and two walks. Zoe Isom forced a groundout against the one batter they faced.
- Hardin registered their first home run of the season, while posting a career best three RBIs.
- Eastern claimed their first road sweep against the Mustangs in program history, winning the season series 3-1. Three of the Greyhounds six road wins against the Midwestern State in program history have come under the tenure of Head Coach Amanada Fefel (6-11 all-time in Wichita Falls).
The Greyhounds now travel to play #1 West Texas A&M, facing the Lady Buffs on Sunday, April 13. First pitch of is set for 12 p.m. (MST) for game one, with the second game to follow shortly after.
