SAN ANGELO, Texas – In a tale of two game, Eastern New Mexico Baseball (26-19, 24-19 LSC) dropped a pair of road games against #2 Angelo State (38-7, 36-7 LSC) on Friday afternoon. In the opening game, Angelo State used a big 5
th inning to beat the Greyhounds 13-10. In game two, the ENMU bats were held at bay during a 15-1 victory for Angelo State.
GAME ONE: #2 ASU 13, ENMU 10
The Greyhounds erupted for six runs in the second inning.
Beau Preston started the two-out scoring with an RBI single through the right side.
Dylan Shea and
Kyle Kiernan went back-to-back on a hit-by-pitch, pushing home another run.
Willie Ponce followed up to clear the bases, with a grand slam over the right field fence. The Greyhounds picked up two more runs in the next inning, with
Demetrio Archuleta hitting a two-run home run over the left center fence, 8-0 ENMU.
Anthony Cortese brought home a run in the 4
th inning, doubling down the left field line to score Ponce from second base.
However, the Rams mounted a comeback against the Greyhounds, scoring two runs in the 4
th inning and 11 runs in the 5
th to take a 13-9 lead. In the big 5
th inning, the Rams sent home 11 runs on 10 hits, taking advantage of two Greyhound errors. A Cortese sacrifice fly in the 6
th turn out to just be a consolation run, as the Rams held on to win 13-10.
GAME TWO: #2 ASU 15, ENMU 1
The Rams got out in front quickly and added on runs in bunches against the Greyhounds. ASU scored three runs in the first and six runs in the second to take a 9-0 lead after two innings. Angelo State supplied four more runs over the next 13-0 after five full innings. Terilli ended the shutout bid with a solo home run to center field in the 6
th inning, but Angleo State provided two more runs to end the game 15-1 for ASU.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Ponce hit his second home run of the weekend, while Archuleta grabbed his first home run of the series. Terilli launched his 11th home run of the season, holding a team lead, along with his second of the weekend.
- Eastern hopes come away with the getaway game tomorrow, facing #2 Angelo State in the series finale on Saturday, April 19, with first pitch scheduled for 12 p.m. (MST) / 1 p.m. (CST).
