PORTALES, N.M. – Eastern New Mexico rodeo will travel to Snyder, Texas for a weekend rodeo hosted by Western Texas College. Before the Greyhounds begin competition, please take a look at the Three Barrel Preview:
1.) Sweetwater Recap – ENMU rodeo competed last weekend in Sweetwater.
Tanner Lockie (13.3s) was seven spots away from earning a trip to the short go in tiedown roping.
Tyson Mackenzie made a trip to the short round in steer wrestling after a 6.3s run. He finished in seventh in the event.
Shacie Marr was one spot shy of qualifying for the short go in breakaway roping after a 2.1s run. She did make the short go in goat tying after splitting 5/6/7/8 with a 6.9s mark. Barrels was the most difficult event result-wise as the lengthier arena made it difficult for quick times from the Hounds. Overall, the women's team took seventh place in the competition courtesy of Marr's run in goat tying.
2.) On the Look – Eastern will have 36 entries in this weekend's competition. Fourteen competitors from ENMU will see action in breakaway. Four of those competitors will compete in Thursday's slack at 1 p.m. and one will be featured in the 5 p.m. Thursday slack. Two more will appear in Friday's slack at 5 p.m. and the remaining seven will compete in Saturday's slack at 9 a.m. The busiest event for the men's team will be tiedown roping.
Tanner Lockie and
Bowdy Neece will compete in the event on Friday at 5 p.m. and
Zachary Townsend will complete his run during Saturday slack at 9 a.m. Other entries for ENMU include barrel racing (8), goat tying (7), team roping (2), and steer wrestling (2).
3.) In The Region – Eastern New Mexico women's rodeo ranks fifth in the southwest region with just three competitions remaining in the schedule.
Shacie Marr ranks sixth in the region in barrel racing and ninth in goat tying.
Shaeden Marr sits in eleventh in breakaway roping. The women's team is less than forty points behind Texas Tech who is sitting in fourth in the region. The final three rodeos include Western Texas College (Apr. 3-5), Howard College (Apr. 10-12), and Tarleton State (Apr. 24-26).
