SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Falling behind early in the game, Eastern New Mexico Baseball (24-14, 22-14 LSC) dropped the series finale against St. Mary's (23-15, 21-15 LSC) on Sunday afternoon at Dickson Stadium, 10-4. The two teams take a split of the series, as the Greyhounds won both games of seven inning doubleheader.
ENMU fell behind early, posting seven hits in the game to the Rattlers 12.
Kyle Kiernan and
Willie Ponce each supplied two hits, including a double, while
Adrien Martin finished with an RBI double and a pair of walks.
Five different Hounds took to the mound, with
Chase Rozell taking the loss after giving up six hits and six runs over 1.2 innings.
Logan Kinter (2.0 IP, 1 ER) and
Adrian Rubio (2.2 IP, 2 ER, 5 K's) both had long relief appearances, while
Marc Rios and
Jadon Rendon each tossed one inning.
After a scoreless 1
st inning, St. Mary's scored six runs on five hits and three walks to take 6-0 lead against the Greyhounds. Eastern responded with a run from a sacrifice fly in the next half inning, with
Luciano Terilli scoring Kiernan. The next inning, ENMU reduced the Rattlers lead with two runs.
Dylan Shea and
Jalen Freeman reached base to flip the lineup, then Kiernan doubled to score Shea. Freeman later came home on a wild pitch, making the score 6-3 StMU.
However, St. Mary's reestablished the big cushion with a run in the 4
th inning, and two solo home runs in the 6
th inning, 9-3 StMU. Martin picked up an RBI double in the 7
th inning, scoring
Anthony Cortese from first base with two outs. St. Mary's homered again in the 7
th, ending the game 10-4 for the home team.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
- Ponce put up his 18th multi-hit game of the season, leading the team. Kiernan had his eighth multi-hit game of the season.
- Eastern New Mexico comes home for the next LSC series, facing Lubbock Christian for a four-game series beginning on Friday, April 11.
