PORTALES, N.M. – The 2024-25 collegiate rodeo season continues with a trip to Howard College in Big Spring, Texas. Before the next rodeo, please take a look at the Three Barrel Preview:
1.) WTC Recap: Eastern New Mexico had an excellent weekend at Western Texas College. Four student-athletes made the short go in the competition and both the men's and women's programs took a top ten finish.
Shaeden Marr made the short round in breakaway and her sister
Shacie Marr made it in the barrels. Both
Zachary Townsend and
Tyson Mackenzie earned trips in the steer wrestling. Townsend had one of the best runs in steer wrestling with a 4.3s time in the short go. He earned second in average and first in the short go after the impressive run.
2.) Competition Ahead: In 2024, the men's team finished in eleventh place at Howard College. One male (
Couy McBride) and one female (
Greeley Eastep) made the short go in Big Spring one year ago. In 2023,
Couy McBride,
Shacie Marr,
Rowdy Norwood, and
Greeley Eastep made the Saturday night marquee event. This year, five Greyhounds will compete in team roping in three different entries. Other competitor numbers include steer wrestling (2), breakaway (13), goat tying (6), barrels (8), and tiedown (3).
