PORTALES, N.M. – After excellent spring seasons, baseball's
Luciano Terilli and softball's
Aylene Lucero have both been named 2024-25 Greatest Greyhounds (Student-Athlete of the Year).
Terilli becomes the 80
th Male Greatest Greyhound in the awards history, while Lucero becomes the 46
th Female Greatest Greyhound.
The selection of the Terilli and Lucero marks a diamond sports sweep for the second time in the award's history, first occurring in 2007-08 with Tyler Hayes (baseball) and Laura Thompson (softball). Terilli is the first baseball athlete to be recognized since 2012-13 (Luis Quiñones) and the fourth baseball student-athlete to be named Greatest Greyhound. Lucero becomes the first softball student-athlete to win the award outright since 2007-08 (Laura Thompson) and becomes the eighth softball athlete to win the award.
The Greatest Greyhound awards date back to 1940-41 on the men's side and 1978-79 on the women's side and is presented to a male and female Eastern New Mexico student-athlete every year that displayed the highest degree of athletic achievement, academic success, leadership qualities, community involvement and positive representation of Eastern New Mexico University. The award is voted on by ENMU head coaches and administrative staff.
LUCIANO TERILLI
Terilli concluded their playing career with a standout season in the outfield for the Greyhounds, helping the team to a 27-23 record, including a 25-23 conference record. The Hounds 25 wins in conference were the most in program history, while 27 wins overall were the most for the team since 2018, and the 5
th most ever in a single season.

Riley Price. "Luciano is very deserving of this award. A lot of hard work and development on his part allowed for such a special career here at ENMU," said Price. "He is a phenomenal teammate and a true competitor that every coach wants to have in their program. Luciano trusted the process and stayed humble throughout all the highs and lows, which is a true testament of his great character," said Price. "I'm extremely proud for Luciano and all he has accomplished as one of the Greatest Greyhounds to have worn the uniform!".
The left-hander paced the Greyhounds offense from the leadoff spot, slashing .410/.526/.732 with a 1.258 OPS, leading the team with 62 runs scored, 75 hits, 12 home runs, 44 walks, and 134 total bases. Terilli's 1.258 OPS was 2
nd in the LSC, while ranking in the top 10 in the conference for batting average, home runs, total bases, slugging percentage, walks, and on-base percentage.
The outfielder racked up several conference and regional accolades, being named to the LSC All-Conference First Team and to the All-LSC Defensive Team. In the region, Terilli earned all-region honors from the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) and American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA).
Terilli's individual season lands in the top-10 in several categories, while leading the program to several team records in 2025. The Dallas, Texas native's 44 walks set a new single season record, while his 134 total bases, 62 runs scored, and 12 home runs were the second most by a Greyhound in a single season. Playing in all 50 games for Eastern, Terilli reached base in 48 of the 50 games, recording 23 multi-hit games, and 12 multi-RBI games.
AYLENE LUCERO
Spending five athletic seasons with the Greyhounds, Lucero has elevated the softball programs success over their career at Eastern, culminating in an All-American senior season. Lucero powered the Greyhounds offense ranking in top-10 in the LSC for most offensive categories. Lucero's effort helped the team to a 30-25 record, along with a 23-21 LSC record. ENMU finished over .500 for the first time since 2006, a program record for LSC wins, and the highest finish in the LSC since 2002 (6
th).
"Such a tremendous and deserving honor to end her senior year being name Greatest Greyhound," said Head Softball Coach
Amanda Fefel. "Laney's dedication in the classroom and on the field was unmatched as she embodied the true spirit of a student-athlete. Her resilience and determination throughout her career were extremely impressive and something amazing to be part of," said Fefel. "She is so worthy of this award!".
The outfielder paced the team with a .414 batting average, scoring 61 runs, with 75 hits, 118 total bases, .516 on-base percentage, and 15 stolen bases. Both Lucero's hits and runs scored were three away from setting a single-season program record, with her tally for runs being the second most in ENMU history, while being the fifth most hits in a single season. In their career, Lucero ranks in the top ten for career runs scored and career stolen bases. During their final season, Lucero led the team with 16 multi-hit games, while picking up 11 multi-RBI games, registering a hit or a run scored in 49 of the 55 games during the season.
Lucero's play over the season drew in several accolades from the conference, region, and nationally. The Albuquerque, N.M. native earned All-LSC First Team honors, while earning All-Region Second Team recognition from the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA). Additionally, Lucero earned first team all-region honors and third team All-American honors from the D2CCA, becoming just the fourth Greyhound to earn All-American honors from the D2CCA in program history.
In addition to their decorated softball career, Lucero was selected as the LSC Athletic Performance Athlete of the Year, becoming the first Greyhound to win the honor from the LSC in program history. Currently pursuing a masters degree, Lucero is a eight time recipient of the LSC Commissioner's Honor Roll, has been named to the College Sports Communicators All-District Team three times, while earning a NFCA/Easton All-America Scholar Athlete two times.
