PORTALES, N.M. – Eastern New Mexico men's and women's rodeo is headed to Canadian, Texas to compete at a rodeo hosted by Frank Phillips College, September 25-27. The three-day event begins Thursday and concludes with finals on Saturday night. Please read the Three Barrel Preview before the programs compete.
1.) Top Five Nods – Both Eastern New Mexico rodeo teams finished in the top five at the home rodeo last weekend. ENMU women earned a second-place finish with two Hounds leading the way with major points in goat tying. The men's team took fifth and were just 45 points away from clinching second overall. They were led by strong performances in tie down roping and steer wrestling. Overall, the team added versatility and strengths in different events compared to previous years.
2.) Winning Satisfies –
Mackinzee Dermody was the star for Greyhound women's rodeo this weekend as she won the goat tying at the College "Daze" Rodeo. The Texas Tech transfer won the long and short go in goat tying, which led her to a comfortable advantage in the average. Dermody was also aided in scoring points by
Shaeden Marr who secured 23.30 points in goat tying after a sixth overall nod. The top men's performers were
Bowdy Neece and
Jacob Walters. Neece took second in tie down roping and Walters scored big points in steer wrestling and team roping.
3.) Expect More – Competition will be fun as all ten teams in the Caprock get another chance at a rodeo with a competition happening in consecutive weeks. Three Greyhounds will highlight the program Thursday. The performance is set to begin at 6:30 p.m. CT. Friday will be the busiest day for ENMU as 16 student-athletes will run then. Finally, nine Greyhounds will compete on Saturday in hopes of making it back for another shot for Friday night's finals. One student-athlete competing for the first time this season is
