PORTALES, N.M. – Eastern New Mexico University's 2026 football schedule is now out.
"Excited for the college football season to kickoff," remarked head coach
Art Briles reflecting on the schedule ahead.
ENMU will play two nonconference games before the Lone Star Conference slate gets rolling. The Hounds will host five games and travel for six matchups during the 2026 campaign.
The first game of the season will take Eastern New Mexico to New Mexico Highlands. The trip to Las Vegas, N.M. on Thursday, Aug. 27 will mark the first game of the Briles era. The Greyhounds hold a 35-14 record over the in-state Cowboys.
"Ready to get started at NMHU to kickoff the college football season," said Briles when asked about the season opener. "It'll be great to begin the year in Las Vegas."
Eastern's home opener is slated for Sept. 5 against Colorado Mesa. It will mark the fifth meeting all-time between the two opponents.
Conference games will begin on Sept. 19 with the Greyhounds traveling south to face Texas A&M-Kingsville. The last time ENMU has beaten TAMUK is Sept. 28, 2019.
The first home game in LSC play is Sept. 26 versus UT Permian Basin. UTPB recently hired Chris Softley as their head football coach. It will be the tenth meeting all-time between the two foes.
Eastern New Mexico will go on the road for back-to-back games against Sul Ross State (Oct. 3) and Western New Mexico (Oct. 10).
The much anticipated Wagon Wheel game is scheduled for Oct. 17 in Portales. The annual matchup has been contested as a "trophy" game since 1986 with WT holding a slight, 19-18, edge.
Eastern will travel to Western Oregon on Oct. 24 and host Central Washington on Halloween at Steve Loy Family Foundation Stadium.
The final two games of regular season action include a road game versus Angelo State on Nov. 7 and a senior day matchup with Midwestern State on Nov. 14.
