ENMU women's basketball defeats UT Dallas 69-51 for third straight victory

Mekhila Brown scores a game-high 17 points to lead the Hounds in 18-point victory over the Comets

PORTALES, N.M. – The Eastern New Mexico women's basketball team extended its winning streak to three games with a commanding 69-51 victory over UT Dallas on Saturday afternoon at the Steve Loy Family Foundation Arena.
 
Mekhila Brown delivered a flawless performance off the bench, shooting a perfect 7-of-7 from the field to lead the Hounds with 17 points and two rebounds. Brown became the first ENMU player to shoot 100 percent from the field with a minimum of five attempts since Julieta Ceja went 6-for-6 in a 74-63 win over New Mexico Highlands on Nov. 8, 2024.
 
Chloe Dallas added 14 points with a game-high eight rebounds and one steal for Eastern. Ceja contributed 12 points on efficient shooting, going 2-of-2 from three-point range while adding five rebounds, two assists and one steal. Aaliyah Smith rounded out the double-digit scorers with 10 points, four assists and two rebounds.
 
For the Comets, Kinley Mears paced the offense with 10 points, while Anna Yellen added nine points on 3-of-6 shooting from beyond the arc.
 
The Hounds trailed 13-8 after the opening quarter but responded with a dominant 22-15 second period to take a 30-28 halftime advantage. Eastern seized control in the third quarter, outscoring UT Dallas 21-9 to build a commanding 51-37 lead heading into the final frame. The Hounds closed out the contest with an 18-14 fourth quarter to secure the 18-point victory.
 
Eastern New Mexico improved to 15-9 overall and 11-5 in Lone Star Conference play, while UT Dallas fell to 10-12 on the season and 7-8 in conference action.
 
The Hounds will hit the road next weekend for a pair of conference matchups, traveling to face Texas A&M International on February 19 before taking on Texas A&M-Kingsville on February 21.
