UT Dallas baseball takes game against Eastern New Mexico

ENMU baseball drops series opener in Richardson to Comets, 14-3 (7 inn.)

RICHARDSON, Texas – Eastern New Mexico baseball dropped the series opener to UT Dallas, 13-3 (7 inn.).

"They are a good team," said head coach Riley Price after the game. "They competed at the plate."

Early on, Eastern New Mexico held full control of the game. UTD began the series with reigning south central region pitcher of the week David Dean. ENMU was able to get hits off Dean and take a 3-0 lead with him on the mound. The starter finished his outing giving up four hits, three runs, and two walks.

Despite scoring the game's first three runs, ENMU would proceed to allow 14 unanswered. UTD scored in each of the final six frames. Eastern held a 3-2 lead going into the fourth inning, but that is where the game got taken out of reach.

The Comets plated four runs with two outs in the fourth inning. The sequence included three hits (single, double, triple) and four walks. UTD's Korson Hastings started the frame with a ground out and ended the inning with a strikeout.

UT Dallas added an insurance run in the fifth to go up 7-3. The sixth inning provided some extra drama for the home side. Three singles, three walks, a double, and hit by pitch allowed seven runners to score for the Comets. Midway through the outing, reliever Logan Kinter replaced Jedadiah Trudeau from the lineup.

Once the game got into run-rule territory, that is all that mattered for UT Dallas. The Comets blazed past the Greyhounds in the final frame to lock-in a seventh win of the season.

Two players had multi-hit outings for Eastern New Mexico. Cole Curtis and Eiji Sawamura both had two hits. Curtis finished with a single and triple. Sawamura had a double, single, and walk.

Cole Lancaster was credited with the loss, but his effort on the mound early in the contest does not go without notice. He only allowed fours and two runs over the opening three innings of play. However, the fourth inning is where he got into trouble and left the contest with the bases loaded and the score favoring the Comets, 5-3.

Eastern New Mexico will be back in action tomorrow for a doubleheader with UTD. First pitch is slated for 11 a.m. MT.
