KINGSVILLE, Texas -
Chloe Dallas scored a game-high 19 points to lead Eastern New Mexico to a hard-fought 57-56 victory over Texas A&M-Kingsville on Saturday afternoon at the Steinke Center.
The Greyhounds improved to 17-9 overall and 13-5 in Lone Star Conference play, while the Javelinas fell to 5-19 overall and 5-13 in league action.
Dallas was efficient from the field, connecting on 7-of-13 shots while adding four rebounds, two steals, and a block in 24 minutes of action. The senior's performance was crucial in helping Eastern escape Kingsville with the one-point road victory.
The Greyhounds received significant contributions from their bench, with
Nataya Lockett and
Mekhila Brown combining for 25 points. Lockett provided a spark with 13 points on 5-of-10 shooting, adding five rebounds and three steals in 28 minutes. Brown chipped in 12 points and grabbed four rebounds in 22 minutes of work.
Julieta Ceja added six points and five rebounds for Eastern, while
Martrice Brooks contributed two points and three rebounds.
Toyah Montgomery dished out two assists, and
Hannah Jensen added a rebound in limited action.
For Texas A&M-Kingsville, Kaycee Groves led all scorers with 21 points on 7-of-17 shooting, including 2-of-10 from beyond the arc. Groves also pulled down six rebounds and recorded three steals. Thalia Daniels came off the bench to score 21 points on 5-of-10 shooting, including 4-of-4 from three-point range, and grabbed six rebounds.
Addisyn Parker added four points for the Javelinas, while Justine Aguilar and Howell Kaylee each scored four points. Landri Richey contributed four points and five rebounds.
Eastern New Mexico shot 24-of-55 (43.6 percent) from the field, including 3-of-12 (25.0 percent) from three-point range and 6-of-14 (42.9 percent) from the free-throw line. The Greyhounds held Texas A&M-Kingsville to 19-of-46 shooting (41.3 percent) from the field, 6-of-20 (30.0 percent) from beyond the arc, and 12-of-16 (75.0 percent) from the charity stripe.
Eastern forced 19 turnovers while committing 13 of their own. The Hounds scored 16 points off turnovers compared to 10 for Texas A&M-Kingsville.
Eastern New Mexico scored 34 points in the paint while limiting the Javelinas to 20. The Greyhounds also held an advantage in bench points (30-25).
With the victory, Eastern New Mexico moves into a three-way tie for fourth place in the Lone Star Conference standings with Lubbock Christian and Angelo State. The Greyhounds and Rams will face off in the final game of the regular season next Saturday in Portales, making Thursday's contest against UT Permian Basin crucial for playoff positioning.
Eastern New Mexico returns home to the Steve Loy Family Foundation Arena in Portales, N.M., to host UT Permian Basin on Thursday, Feb. 26, at 5:30 p.m. The Greyhounds will then close out the regular season against Angelo State on Saturday, Feb. 28, in what could be a pivotal matchup for conference tournament seeding.
