Greyhound baseball drops two in Lawton

ENMU baseball loses two close games to Cameron

LAWTON, Okla. – Eastern New Mexico baseball dropped two games to Cameron Saturday afternoon.

Game One – CU 7, ENMU 3

Cameron took game one with a 7-3 result. CU out hit the Greyhounds, 10-6, and managed to control the matchup on the mound.

Jaylen Cream got the start for the Aggies on the mound. He was effective going 5.1 innings and allowing just three runs on six hits and three walks. He struck out seven batters and threw 101 pitches. Keith Kennemer earned the save after going 1.2 innings to close out the matchup.

The game was tight for a majority of the afternoon as CU held a 1-0 advantage after a solo homer in the bottom of the first all the way to the fourth inning. CU broke the game open by adding two more runs in that fourth frame.

Eastern got their first run of the day in the fifth inning on a throwing error at third base. Cole Curtis had enough time to score all the way from first base. CU answered with a run of their own in the same frame.

ENMU got the game within two runs after scoring a pair in the sixth. The effort came with bases loaded as Isaiah Figueroa had one of his two hits in the game to drive in Jake Willerup. That followed with Gaston Galvan being hit by a pitch and sending Adrien Martin home on the bases loaded play.

Despite the effort getting within one run, CU continued to find a response and added three runs in the sixth. The Greyhounds loaded the bases with two outs in the seventh, but Cameron was able to get the third out and come away with the game one victory.

Game Two – CU 4, ENMU 2

It didn't take long for the offense to get going in game two of the doubleheader between the Greyhounds and Aggies.

An RBI-single by Gabriel Watson gave Grant Gilooly the green light to cross home plate after he opened the day with a single of his own along with a stolen base. Cameron would answer with two runs of their own in the opening inning of action.

Eastern ended up getting at least one hit in the next three innings, but they could not find a way to get a runner across the plate. CU extended their lead, 3-1, in the fourth.

ENMU's final run of the contest came in the fifth as an Eiji Sawamura hit allowed Cole Curtis to score.

Before any further damage was done, CU made a pitching change and controlled the rest of the game.

Charlie Pierson threw all six innings of work for ENMU. He allowed four runs (three earned) on four hits and two walked batters.

The getaway game is slated for 12 p.m. MT on Sunday.
