Greyhounds sweep Hilltoppers

Miranda Guillen and Marissa Rodriguez pitch complete-games in Hounds sweep over SEU

PORTALES, N.M. - Eastern New Mexico swept St. Edward's on Saturday afternoon, 4-3 and 8-0, in Lone Star Conference action at Greyhound Softball Field in Portales.

The Hounds improved to 12-11 overall and 8-8 in conference play.

Game 1: ENMU 4, SEU 3

In the opening game, Seneca Aarstad delivered the heroics for Eastern New Mexico, leading the Hounds with two hits and three RBI in the 4-3 victory. Aarstad wasted no time making an impact, singling to left center in the first inning to score Talia Martin and Samantha Parisi, giving ENMU an early 2-0 advantage.

St. Edward's battled back to take a 3-2 lead before the Hounds responded in the fifth inning. Christina Meneses tied the game at 3-3 with a ground out to second base that plated a run. Aarstad then stepped to the plate and delivered what would be the game-winning hit, singling through the left side to score Emily Marsh for the go-ahead run.

Marsh also had a productive day at the plate, finishing with two hits for Eastern. The Hounds collected six hits in the contest while holding the Hilltoppers to eight hits.

In the circle, Miranda Guillen turned in a complete-game performance for the Hounds. Guillen surrendered three runs on eight hits while striking out four batters. She walked only one batter and improved to 5-4 on the season.

Game 2: ENMU 8, SEU 0 (5 innings)

Eastern New Mexico dominated game two of the doubleheader, defeating St. Edward's 8-0 in five innings via the run-rule. The Hounds scored three runs in both the third and fifth innings to put the game away.

Marissa Rodriguez and Lorissa Scott paced the ENMU offense, each collecting two hits and a double. Rodriguez's double came in the second inning, while Scott's extra-base hit helped fuel the Hounds' offensive attack. Ana Paula Oquita, Giazza Lopez, Christina Meneses, and Destiny Johnston each added an RBI in the victory.

Rodriguez was equally impressive in the circle, tossing a complete-game shutout. The right-hander allowed just five hits while striking out two Hilltoppers. Rodriguez remained unbeaten on the season, improving to a perfect 6-0.

The Hounds finished with eight hits in the run-rule victory, while St. Edward's managed five hits but couldn't push a run across the plate.

Eastern New Mexico will hit the road next weekend to take on Midwestern State on Friday, March 20, before heading to Lubbock to take on Lubbock Christian on Sunday, March 22.
