Lady Chaps sweep Greyhounds

Parisi leads Hounds with four hits on the day

LUBBOCK, Texas - Eastern New Mexico's five-game winning streak came to an end Sunday afternoon as the Greyhounds dropped a Lone Star Conference doubleheader at Lubbock Christian, falling 11-0 in five innings in the opener before dropping a 4-3 decision in the nightcap at Maner Park.

Eastern New Mexico falls to 14-13 overall and 10-10 in Lone Star Conference play, while Lubbock Christian improves to 16-14 overall and 12-8 in league action.

Game 1: LCU 11, ENMU 0 (5 innings)

Samantha Parisi led the Greyhounds offensively with two hits in three at-bats, while Emily Marsh added a single as Eastern managed just three hits as a team in the run-rule loss.

The Lady Chaps jumped on the Greyhounds early, plating five runs in the bottom of the first inning before adding two runs in each of the second, third and fourth innings to invoke the run rule.

Miranda Guillen suffered the loss in the circle and moved to 6-5 on the season. Guillen surrendered five runs on two hits with one strikeout in two-thirds of an inning. Marissa Rodriguez made a brief appearance before Cierra Smith entered in relief. Smith tossed 3.0 innings and allowed four runs on four hits with two earned runs while striking out two Lady Chaps.

Alexis Clark earned the win for Lubbock Christian, improving to 6-4 on the season. Clark tossed a complete game, allowing three hits while striking out five Greyhounds.

Game 2: LCU 4, ENMU 3

Eastern New Mexico took advantage of a throwing error by Lubbock Christian pitcher Ashlinn Hamilton in the top half of the second inning to score the game's first run. The Lady Chaps responded immediately with a pair of runs in the bottom half of the frame and added single runs in the third and sixth innings to build a 4-1 advantage.

Parisi delivered a clutch two-run triple in the Greyhounds' final at-bat in the seventh inning to pull Eastern within one run, but Lubbock Christian held on for the 4-3 victory.

Parisi finished 2-for-4 with two RBI to pace the Greyhounds' offense. Talia Martin, Christina Meneses and Seneca Aarstad each recorded one hit in the losing effort. Eastern totaled five hits as a team.

Angelina Rubalcava pitched a complete game for the Greyhounds, working 6.0 innings while surrendering four runs on seven hits with three earned runs. She struck out four batters and falls to 1-3 on the season.

Hamilton earned the win for the Lady Chaps, improving to 1-2 on the year. Hamilton allowed one run on four hits over 6.0 innings with two strikeouts. Kendall Ward picked up her seventh save of the season, allowing two runs on one hit with two strikeouts in 1.0 inning of work.

Eastern New Mexico returns to Lone Star Conference action Saturday, March 28, when the Greyhounds travel to Canyon to face nationally ranked West Texas A&M in a doubleheader at Schaeffer Park. First pitch is slated for 12 p.m. MT / 1 p.m. CT.
