CANYON, Texas - Eastern New Mexico dropped a hard-fought doubleheader to top-ranked West Texas A&M on Saturday afternoon in Canyon. The Lady Buffs won 13-5 in game one and 3-2 in game two.

Game 1: ENMU 5, No. 1 WT 13
Eastern New Mexico struck first in the top of the first inning when
Christina Meneses launched a solo home run to center field, giving the Greyhounds an early 1-0 lead.

However, West Texas A&M responded with four runs in the bottom of the first and three more in the second to take a 7-1 lead.

The Greyhounds battled back in the top of the third inning, scoring twice to cut the deficit to 7-3.
Talia Martin drew a walk and
Lorissa Scott singled to left field before Meneses doubled to right center, driving in two runs.

Eastern added a run in the top of the fifth when Martin singled up the middle and later scored on a double to left center by
Giazza Lopez. The Lady Buffs answered with four runs in the bottom half of the inning to extend their lead to 11-4. ENMU scored once more in the sixth inning, but West Texas A&M added two runs to secure the 13-5 victory.

Meneses paced the ENMU offense, going 2-for-3 with a home run and a double, scoring a run and driving in three. Lopez contributed a double and drove in one run while going 1-for-2 at the plate. Martin finished 1-for-2 with a walk, adding a single and scoring twice.
Ana Paula Oquita went 1-for-2 with a home run and one RBI, while Scott added a single, going 1-for-3 and scored a run.

In the circle,
Cierra Smith (0-1) started for the Greyhounds and was tagged with the loss, working just 0.2 innings and allowing four runs on three hits with two walks.
Jordan Rivera entered in relief and pitched 4.0 innings, surrendering seven runs (seven earned) on six hits.
Angelina Rubalcava pitched the final inning, allowing two runs on three hits with one strikeout.

Game 2: ENMU 2, No. 1 WT 3
Eastern again struck first in the top of the first inning when
Samantha Parisi singled to left field and later scored to give the Greyhounds an early 1-0 lead.

The game remained 1-0 through four innings as both pitching staffs dominated. West Texas finally broke through in the bottom of the fifth inning, scoring to tie the game at 1-1.

The Greyhounds answered immediately in the top of the sixth inning when
Emily Marsh launched a solo home run to left field to give the Hounds a 2-1 advantage.

However, the Lady Buffs added two more runs in the bottom of the sixth after Liskai homered to center field to tie the game before Holland singled to center field, driving in the go-ahead run.

ENMU was unable to push across the tying run in the seventh inning, falling 3-2 to the top-ranked Lady Buffs in a hard-fought pitcher's duel.

Parisi led the ENMU offense, going 2-for-3 with one run scored and a walk. Marsh contributed a solo home run and went 1-for-3 at the plate. Lopez finished 2-for-4 with an RBI, while Meneses went 1-for-3.

Marissa Rodriguez started for the Greyhounds and pitched a strong game, working 4.2 innings and allowing one run on eight hits.
Miranda Guillen (6-6) entered in relief and pitched 1.1 inning, allowing two runs on three hits while walking one.

UP NEXT
Eastern is now 14-15 on the season and 10-12 in conference play. The Hounds will return home this week to take on Texas Woman's on Wednesday and UT Tyler on Friday.
