Three Barrel Preview: Western Texas College

Eastern New Mexico rodeo is set for trip to Snyder, Texas for rodeo at WTC

PORTALES, N.M. – Eastern New Mexico rodeo continues the 2025-26 season at Western Texas College this weekend. The three-day competition will run from March 26-28 at the Coliseum Rodeo Grounds in Snyder, Texas. Before the rodeo, please take a look at the Three Barrel Preview:

1.) Top Marks in Odessa: Eastern New Mexico opened the spring slate of the season back in late-February in Odessa, Texas. Both the men's and women's programs had their best team finish of the season and ENMU had the all-around champion for both men and women. The women's team won the rodeo with impressive performances from Mackinzee Dermody and Shaeden Marr. The men's team took third place overall and finished five points away from the runner-up. Jacob Walters posted 435 of the team's 515 total points. He won the tie down roping with times of 9.4s and 9.9s. Walters took third in steer wrestling with 4.9s and 5.7s runs. In team roping, Walters and his partner Teagan Roukema posted 6.6s and 7.5s times to take second place. The TTU transfer won the all-around by a 140-point margin. Marr scored 180 of the program's 330 team points. The Tularosa native was third in goat tying with 6.5s and 7.0s marks. She split 4-5-6 after 2.5s and 12.2s times in breakaway. Marr won the all-around by a 65-point margin.

2.) Hounds All-Around: The busiest event for Eastern New Mexico is barrel racing as the Greyhounds will have eight of the 78 total competitors in the field. ENMU will have two competing in the event on Thursday night, five Friday morning, and one in the Friday performance. The rodeo will have 51 entries in team roping with six of those coming from the Greyhounds. Walters and Roukema are slated to run in the sixth-hole Saturday morning. They will be the first of five entries that morning represented by Eastern. One team per night will compete in the performance on Thursday and Friday from the green and silver. Other entries for ENMU include breakaway (6), tie down (5), goat tying (3), and steer wrestling (3).

3.) In The Region: With a win in Odessa, Eastern New Mexico women's rodeo now sits in second in the Caprock region with 1038.66 points. They are within 50 points of South Plains College who are in first place. The top two teams in the region advance to the national finals in Casper, Wyo. and with four rodeos remaining in the season, the Hounds are in an ideal position for a bid. Shaeden Marr is 15th in the region in breakaway roping and 40 points away from breaking into the top 10. Mackinzee Dermody leads the region with 608.3 points in goat tying. Marr is sixth in the same event with 263.3 points. The men's program is fourth in the region with 2015 points and are less than 300 points from Texas Tech in third. Jacob Walters leads the all-around with 1465 points and holds nearly a 400-point lead. Three student-athletes rank in the top 10 in tie down roping. They include Walters (3rd – 380 pts), Bowdy Neece (7th – 255 pts), and Cutter Pareo (9th – 180 pts). Walters is also fourth in the region in steer wrestling with 465 points and his teammate Orran Hart is 11th in the event with 115 points. Walters is clear-as-day the best header in the region with 620 points compared to 380 for the second-place header.
