Late night lightning delayed game favors LCU, 10-6

Eastern New Mexico leaves 15 runners on base in loss to Lubbock Christian

LUBBOCK, Texas – A lightning delayed battle between two Lone Star Conference foes ended nearly nine hours after an original 1 p.m. CT first pitch. Lubbock Christian ended up pulling out a 10-6 win over Eastern New Mexico.

"We let a few get away," said head coach Riley Price on the game. "We need to be able to capitalize with the bases loaded."

LCU combined for 16 hits in the win. It is the Chaps third most hits recorded this season and the most in a winning effort.

Eastern New Mexico also found ways to get runners on base as they recorded eight hits and walked nine times. Logan Martin got on base the most for any Hound as he posted two singles and two walks. He was one of five ENMU players with an RBI.

An early sac-fly from Adrien Martin and an RBI-single from Logan Martin helped give Eastern the early 2-0 advantage. LCU responded quickly in the bottom half of the inning picking up a pair of runs on a double.

ENMU took advantage of a couple errors from the Chaps in the second inning leading up to a failed pick off attempt allowing Isaiah Figueroa to score. The early struggles from Lubbock Christian's starter forced them to go to the bullpen early for a third-straight game against the Hounds.

LCU would also put pressure on the Eastern pitching staff as they had a game-defining bottom of the second inning. Seven hits led to seven runs for the home side and gave them a 9-3 lead. ENMU would see Micah Early replace Cole Lancaster after just 1.2 innings of work from the Greyhound starter.

Both squads would tack on a run each in the fourth. Eastern's score came on a bases loaded hit by pitch. That would be the first of two times in the game where ENMU would leave three men on base. Throughout the game, the Greyhounds would leave a total of 15 on base.

With the score at 10-4 in the fifth, a lightning delay prompted the teams to halt play and wait until 8 p.m. CT to take the field again. From that point, Eastern New Mexico went to Kaden Widacki on the mound. The first year Greyhound threw an impressive four innings allowing just three hits, a walk, and a hit batter. He did not allow a single Chap to score.

Eastern added a run in the sixth on a Nicholas Miller sac-fly. They also put up a run in the ninth via a RBI-double from Eiji Sawamura. However, the story of leaving runners on base stayed the course and LCU came out on top in the Saturday battle between the Chaps and Greyhounds.

Both teams will play the getaway on Sunday at 1 p.m. CT. in Lubbock.
