Greyhound baseball drops Sunday getaway to Chaps, 12-8

Eastern New Mexico outhits Lubbock Christian, falls in LSC battle

LUBBOCK, Texas – Eastern New Mexico dropped the final game of the road series with Lubbock Christian, 12-8.

"They (LCU) did a good job and found a way to get us out," said head coach Riley Price after the game. "We have to find a way to take advantage of the big inning opportunities."

Despite ENMU scoring first from a RBI-double from Adrien Martin, LCU found a way to score early in the Sunday battle. The Chaps had two homers and an RBI-double in the opening frame to put up four runs. They added three more runs on a three-RBI double in the second inning.

Eastern added a run in the third on an LCU error. Riley Hall and Eiji Sawamura went for a double steal and the pickoff throw was off target at third base, which allowed Hall to cross home safely. Lubbock Christian kept a significant edge after adding a run in the fourth.

Gabriel Watson hit a two-RBI homer in the seventh inning. His bomb was the 10th of the season, which makes him the 10th Greyhound to achieve that mark in a single season. Despite scoring two in the seventh, ENMU proceeded to give away four runs in the same frame.

Sawamura put up an RBI-single and Adrien Martin came up clutch in a bases loaded situation to clear the bases with a double to deep right center field in the eighth. That would be the final score for either team the rest of the way.

Adrien Martin had three of the team's 12 hits on the day. Nicholas Miller (two doubles) and Eiji Sawamura (two singles) both had two hits each. Eastern did leave nine runners on base and struckout nine times in the game.

Alex Sanderson went three innings of work and gave up eight runs on five hits, two walks, and two hit batters. Maddux Edmonson pitched three innings allowing three runs on four hits and a walk. Charlie Pierson closed out the outing for ENMU on the mound with two innings of work. Eastern allowed the Chaps to have 10 hits and five walks. Three LCU batters were hit in the contest.

Eastern New Mexico will now prepare for senior weekend. The Greyhounds will host Angelo State, April 17-19, at Greyhound Baseball Field.
