PORTALES, N.M. – Eastern New Mexico rodeo doesn't have to travel far for the next rodeo of the 2025-26 season. They will compete in Hereford, Texas at a competition hosted by West Texas A&M. Before the three days in the arena, please take a look at the Three Barrel Preview:
1.) Big Swing in Big Spring: Eastern New Mexico took fourth place in the men's competition last weekend. They were led by
Jacob Walters who racked up 170 points. He secured 130 points in tie down roping after times of 10.5s and 13.2s. His other 40 points came in steer wrestling after going 7.7s and 10.8s, respectively.
Cutter Pareo had a good rodeo for ENMU with 135 points after runs of 11.1s and 10.7s in tie down roping.
Walker Dennis and his team roping partner out of South Plains earned 115 points after two consecutive 8.0s-flat performances. The women's team finished third as two cowgirls combined for 145 team points.
Shaeden Marr put up 90 points with times of 9.6s and 9.1s and split 3/4 in the average.
Harlee Barela has had two-straight rodeos as a short round qualifier. She split 1/2 in barrels with a 15.69s time in the long go to snag 55 team points.
2.) Moves in the Caprock: ENMU men's team is ranked fourth in the region just 150 points ahead of New Mexico Junior College who sits in fifth.
Jacob Walters is the top cowboy in the region with 1635 points in the all-around. He is 325 points ahead of the next closest cowboy. Walters is also leading tie down roping (510 pts) in the Caprock and is 25 points ahead of the next closest competitor. His teammates
Cutter Pareo (385 pts) and
Bowdy Neece (255 pts) are also ranked in the top 10 in the region in tie down. Walters is fourth in the region in steer wrestling with 505 points and
Orran Hart is sixth in the Caprock in the same event with 255 points. Walters is clear-as-day the top team roping header with 620 points. In team standings, ENMU is trailing Texas Tech in third with a 550 point deficit. The women saw
Harlee Barela join the top 10 in barrels as she sits ninth with 150 points. Both
Mackinzee Dermody and
Shaeden Marr rank in the top 10 in goat tying. Dermody is second with 628.3 points and Marr is sixth with 353.3 points. The women are 61.67 points away from tying the first place spot held by South Plains.
3.) Ready for Hereford: The Caprock region will go to Hereford, Texas for the first time. The event center made its debut in 2001 and recognizes a longtime resident Spicer Gripp. Events will get going April 16 with a busy set of performances for the Greyhounds.
Orran Hart and
Troy Tenorio are scheduled to compete in tie down on Thursday evening. Afterwards,
Ali Terry and
Mackinzee Dermody will compete in breakaway.
Jacob Walters will represent ENMU in steer wrestling.
Mackinzee Dermody and
Harlee Barela will run in goat tying.
Duncan Adamson and
Orran Hart will compete together in team roping.
Shaeden Marr will be the final Hound competitor of Thursday night with a run in the barrels.
