PORTALES, N.M. – Eastern New Mexico baseball suffered a pair of losses to Angelo State during Saturday's doubleheader at Greyhound Baseball Field.
Game One - ASU 20, ENMU 2
Both Eastern New Mexico and Angelo State battled tight for the opening three innings in the first game. The Rams poked up the scoring with an RBI-single and two RBI-double to take an early 3-0 lead in the second. Eastern tried to respond on early miscues from ASU, but stranded two runners in the bottom of the frame.
The fourth inning changed the perspective on the outcome. In the fourth, ASU scored eight runs on seven hits. They followed that by plating nine runs on five hits and an error in the fifth inning. From there, Angelo State held a 20-0 lead.
Eastern did find a way to score twice in the game.
Gunner Ferguson had an RBI-single on the first pitch of his at-bat to drive home
Carlos Torres Jr. who came in as a pinch hitter earlier in the frame. The Greyhounds added another run in the seventh. Torres Jr. opened the inning with a five pitch walk and scored on a wild pitch with two outs in the final frame.
Nick Gray got the start for the Rams and allowed the two runs on seven hits and two walks. He struck out three Hounds.
Cole Lancaster went four innings and allowed 11 runs on 11 hits.
Grant Gilooly was productive offensively with two hits. The 6-7-8 hole hitters combined for five of the team's seven hits.

Game Two - ASU 19, ENMU 4
The scoring frenzy began early in the nightcap. A 48-minute long first inning finished with the score in ASU's advantage, 7-3. The Rams scored their seven runs on three hits and an error. They left the bases loaded to close the inning. Six different Angelo State players walked in the opening frame. The Greyhounds earned their three runs on one hit and an error. They left two on base.
After a scoreless second inning from both sides, ASU would score in four consecutive frames. They started with six in the third and a run in both the fourth and fifth innings respectively. At that point they led 15-3. Eastern would add their fourth run of the evening in the bottom of the fifth. A sacrifice fly from
Logan Martin would give
Cole Curtis opportunity to cross home.
The Rams earned four more runs in the sixth and that closed out the scoring from both squads. ASU has combined for 65 runs in three games against the Greyhounds.
Eiji Sawamura and Logan martin both had multi-hit games.
Gabriel Watson got on base twice with a pair of walks. Four different Hounds earned a trip to the basepaths via a hit by pitch. The left side of the infield was plagued with errors as both ENMU players on that side registered two errors apiece.
ENMU starter
Micah Early went two innings and allowed nine runs (three earned) on four hits and eight walks. He only faced 18 batters.
Charlie Pierson,
Thomas Fowler, and
Eli Edmiston all pitched in relief. Edmiston made his Hound debut going two innings and allowed no runs on three hits and registering three of the team's four strikeouts.
Both programs finish the series on Sunday at 1 p.m. Senior day ceremonies will take place beforehand.
