ENMU softball splits doubleheader with Texas A&M International

Rodriguez powers game one shutout; ENMU falls in nightcap

LAREDO, Texas - Eastern New Mexico split a Lone Star Conference doubleheader with Texas A&M International on Friday afternoon, winning game one 10-0 before dropping the nightcap 3-2.

Game 1: ENMU 10, TAMIU 0 (5 inn.)

Marissa Rodriguez delivered a dominant performance both at the plate and in the circle to lead the Greyhounds to a run-rule victory in the opener.

Rodriguez went a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI, highlighted by a three-run home run in the second inning. The senior also threw a complete game, surrendering just three hits while striking out three Dustdevils to improve to 9-2 on the season.

Giazza Lopez added three RBI on one hit for Eastern, while Christina Meneses, Natalie Rodarte and Samantha Parisi each recorded a hit in the victory.

The Greyhounds wasted no time getting on the board, plating four runs in the opening frame on two hits and five walks to take an early 4-0 lead.

Eastern extended its advantage to 7-0 in the second inning when Rodriguez launched her three-run blast to right field, scoring Meneses, who doubled, and Lopez, who walked.

The Greyhounds added three more runs in the third inning through small-ball execution. Haleigh Pearce walked before Aubrey Jaramillo entered as a pinch runner. Kayla Campbell moved Jaramillo to second with a sacrifice bunt, and Parisi followed with an RBI double to score Jaramillo. Lopez later singled home both Parisi and Rodarte to cap the scoring.

ENMU's offense finished with eight hits while taking advantage of six walks issued by TAMIU pitching.

Game 2: TAMIU 3, ENMU 2

The Dustdevils halted Eastern's momentum in the nightcap, scoring two runs in the bottom of the first inning and holding on for a 3-2 victory.

Rodarte led the Greyhounds with three hits, while Parisi, Meneses, Rodriguez, Campbell and Emily Marsh each recorded one hit. Eastern left 12 runners on base in the contest.

The Greyhounds trailed 2-0 until the top of the fourth inning when Campbell launched a solo home run to cut the deficit in half. Meneses followed with an RBI single to score Parisi and tie the game at 2-2.

TAMIU reclaimed the lead in its final at-bat on a bases-loaded walk to take a 3-2 win.
