PORTALES, N.M. – Eastern New Mexico rodeo is back in action this weekend as they head to Howard College for the next three days. Before the Greyhounds are off to Big Spring, please take a look at the Three Barrel Preview:
1.) WTC Recap: Both ENMU men's and women's programs took top five finishes at Western Texas College two weeks ago.
Orran Hart had one of the best performances by a Greyhound as he went 5.9s and 3.5s in steer wrestling to win the short go and take second in the average. He closed out the rodeo with 140 points.
Cutter Pareo made the most of his trip to Big Spring as he took fifth in the average in tie down roping after runs of 12.7s and 11.2s. He ended the weekend with 70 points.
Harlee Barela competed well in a tough barrel racing field as she posted times of 14.20s and 13.81s to place third in average and earn 95 points. Her short go run earned her second among the group of Saturday night competitors.
Mackinzee Dermody took fifth in the long round after a 6.8s result in goat tying. The TTU transfer finished the weekend with 20 points.
2.) Team Standings: Eastern New Mexico women's rodeo is sitting second in the Caprock Region with 1153.66 team points. Leading the group of ten colleges/universities is South Plains with 1285.33 points. Just behind ENMU is Texas Tech in third with 1137.50 points. If the Greyhounds finish the regular season in the top two in the region, they will qualify the team for the College National Finals Rodeo in Casper, Wyo. The men's team is currently fourth in the region with 2225 points. They are directly behind Western Texas College who sit with 2887.50 points in third. ENMU is ahead of fifth place New Mexico Junior College with 2055 points.
3.) Events to Watch: Three Greyhounds rank top 10 in tie down roping in the region.
Jacob Walters (4
th),
Bowdy Neece (8
th), and
Cutter Pareo (9
th). Neece will run the event Friday morning. Walters will compete Friday night in the event. Pareo will go Saturday morning. Two Hounds are in the top five for steer wrestling. Walters (4
th) and
Orran Hart (5
th) will both go Friday night. Walters is the top team roping header in the region and is expected to compete Saturday morning in the competition.

th) moved into the top 10 in barrels. She will run on Saturday morning. Both
Mackinzee Dermody (2
nd) and
Shaeden Marr (7
th) are in the top 10 in goat tying. Marr will compete Thursday night and Dermody will run on Friday night.
