Box Score 1 EDMOND, Okla. - The Eastern New Mexico softball team dropped a Lone Star Conference doubleheader to No. 12 Oklahoma Christian on Thursday afternoon at Tom Heath Field, falling 5-2 in game one and 12-8 in game two.
The Greyhounds fall to 15-20 overall and 11-17 in Lone Star Conference play, while the Eagles improve to 33-8 overall and 25-5 in conference action.
Game 1: OC 5, ENMU 2
In the opening game, the Eagles scored a run in the third inning followed by four runs in the fifth to take a 5-0 lead before Eastern mounted a late rally.
Ana Paula Oquita provided a spark for the Greyhounds in the sixth inning, knocking a solo home run – her first of the season – to put ENMU on the scoreboard.
Samantha Parisi followed with a single bunt before taking advantage of a throwing error by the Eagles to cut the deficit to 5-2.
Emily Marsh tallied the lone hit in the top of the seventh inning, but Oklahoma Christian held on for the 5-2 victory.
Giazza Lopez led the Hounds at the plate, going 2-for-4 in the contest. Parisi, Marsh, Oquita,
Angelina Rubalcava,
Talia Martin and
Natalie Rodarte each collected one hit for Eastern.
Rubalcava earned the start in the circle for the Hounds, working 4.1 innings and giving up four runs on seven hits with one strikeout. Rubalcava falls to 2-5 on the season.
Marissa Rodriguez pitched 1.2 innings in relief, allowing one run on three hits.
Game 2: OC 12, ENMU 8
In the nightcap, the Hounds struck first after
Christina Meneses scored Parisi with a double in the opening frame. Oklahoma Christian answered with two runs in the bottom half to take a 2-1 lead.
The Eagles extended their advantage with two runs in the second and three in the third to build a 7-1 lead before Eastern began its comeback attempt.
Marsh hit a solo home run in the top of the fourth inning to cut the Oklahoma Christian lead to 7-2, her first long ball of the game.
After OC added three more runs in the bottom of the fourth to push the lead to 10-2, the Hounds avoided the run rule with four runs in the top of the fifth. Lopez singled and scored Rodarte before Marsh knocked her second home run of the game – a three-run blast – to cut the lead to 10-6 in favor of the Eagles.
Oklahoma Christian scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth to extend the lead to 12-6, but the Greyhounds refused to surrender. ENMU managed four hits in the top of the seventh and plated two runs, but left two runners on base as the Eagles held on for a 12-8 victory.
Marsh led the Hounds with three hits, two home runs and five RBI in the loss. Meneses and Parisi each managed two hits, while Lopez, Oquita,
Cierra Smith and
Miranda Guillen each added one hit.
Guillen earned the start in the circle, working 1.2 innings and giving up four runs on five hits with one strikeout. Lopez came in relief and allowed eight runs on 10 hits while striking out two batters. Guillen moves to 6-8 on the season.
