PORTALES, N.M. – ENMU Athletics and ENMU Softball is set to introduce a new game day tradition this fall with the inaugural ENMU Tailgate Cornhole Series, a season-long competition held in conjunction with Greyhound Football home games.
Built around the theme "Play One Week or Play All Season," the series will feature four regular-season qualifying events leading into a championship during the final ENMU Football home game of the season.
Each qualifying tournament will feature up to 32 two-person teams competing in a single-elimination format. Participants are not required to compete in every event, allowing teams to join for one week, multiple weeks or the entire season while continuing to earn points toward championship qualification. The proceeds from the event will go to ENMU Softball.
Play One Week or Play All Season
The four regular-season events will each give teams an opportunity to earn points based on their tournament finish.
Event champions will earn 100 points, runners-up will receive 80 points, semifinalists 60 points, quarterfinalists 40 points and teams reaching the Round of 16 will earn 20 points. All other participating teams will receive 10 points.
The format is designed to keep teams in the championship race throughout the season. Missing an event will not eliminate a team from contention, and every team that competes will leave with points toward the season standings.
Following the four regular-season events, 16 teams will advance to the Hometown ENMU Tailgate Cornhole Series Championship. The fourth and final regular-season event will also serve as a Last Chance Qualifier, giving teams one final opportunity to secure a place in the championship field.
Registration Options
Teams will have two ways to enter the series.
Single-event registration is $30 per team, allowing participants to select the qualifying events that best fit their schedules.
Teams planning to compete throughout the season can purchase a $100 season pass, which guarantees a spot in all four qualifying tournaments, provides priority registration and saves $20 compared to registering for all four events individually.
With 32 spots available at each event, the series will provide up to 128 team entries across the four regular-season tournaments. Registration for individual games will close at 6 p.m. on the Friday before the game.
A New Greyhound Game Day Tradition
The ENMU Tailgate Cornhole Series is designed to add another element to the atmosphere surrounding ENMU Football while creating a competition that students, faculty, staff, alumni, Greyhound fans and members of the surrounding community can enjoy throughout the season. Each event will take place prior to an ENMU home football game, giving participants and spectators another reason to arrive early, enjoy the tailgate atmosphere and be part of Greyhound game day. Season standings will build throughout the four qualifying events as teams compete for points and position themselves for a chance to play for the inaugural championship.
