Addison Garver scored their first collegiate goals for the Greyhounds, and goalkeeper
Aja Gonzales impressed with eight saves on nine shots.
The Greyhounds started off strong with immense offensive pressure on the Mountaineers, but Western Colorado would strike first on a penalty kick in the 12
th minute from Adah Minikel-Lacocque to give them the early 1-0 lead. The Hounds responded just 16 seconds later on a breakaway goal from sophomore Arissa C'deBaca to even the score at 1-1. The match would remain an even defensive battle until Aubrie Bolanoes would find
Addison Garver who squeezed it just past the Mountaineer goalkeeper's diving effort in the 41
st minute. The goal is the first of Garver's Greyhound career and gave ENMU the 2-1 lead.
Despite an array of scoring opportunities in the second half, both sides were held scoreless, lifting the Greyhounds to their first win since November 4
th, 2024, against UT Permian Basin.
Aja Gonzales was near perfection in goal, stopping eight out of nine shots on goal for Western Colorado.
"Today was definitely a team win. I'm really proud of how they came out and played until the final whistle." said head coach
Nona Borden on the team's win. "They've put in a lot of work this preseason and I'm glad they can see their hard work pay off. We're only going to get better from here."
The Greyhounds (1-0-1) will hit the road next week for two non-conference matches, facing Colorado State University Pueblo (0-1-1) in Pueblo, CO on Thursday at 7 p.m. and Adams State (2-0) in Alamosa, CO on Saturday at 3 p.m. Both games will be streamed live on the RMAC Network.
