PORTALES, N.M. — Prior to Sunday's home finale, the Eastern New Mexico University women's soccer team celebrated the careers of its five seniors:
Melissa Carnero,
Melissa Moxley,
Danielle Caro,
Carolyn Armijo, and
Tyra Gabehart. The Greyhounds (4-10-1; LSC 0-7) dropped a 1-0 decision to visiting Midwestern State (7-3-3; LSC 3-2-2) in Lone Star Conference action.
The seniors combined played in 236 games for Eastern, scored 14 goals, dished out 21 assists, and tallied four game-winning goals. The game marked the ninth time in 15 games this season the Hounds gave up just a single goal or posted a shutout.
Destinee Williamson struck 12:34 in the first half, after a scramble in front of the Greyhound net.
Karissa Stinson made a season-high 10 saves to stop the Mustangs the rest of the way.
Over the last few minutes of play, the Greyhound blocked a shot off the foot of MSU's Ashley Cotrell. Nicole Coetzer picked up the deflection and nearly scored, but Moxley was in perfect position to prevent the goal.
The Eastern New Mexico University women's soccer team will visit Texas Woman's University on Friday. The contest will begin at 6 p.m. MT, and open a three-game road trip to conclude the 2015 regular season.
