DENTON, TEXAS —
Danielle Caro tallied her second goal of the season at the 22:35 mark, but Texas Woman's University (8-5-2; LSC 3-3-1) rallied to thwart a strong effort from the Eastern New Mexico University women's soccer team (4-11-1; LSC 0-8). The Pioneers scored twice in the second half to hand ENMU a 2-1 setback in Lone Star Conference action, Saturday at TWU Soccer Field.
The contest was originally scheduled for Friday evening, but was moved up before being cancelled. An opening in the area storm systems was found to be big enough to accommodate the game, and play started at 4 p.m. MT, on Saturday.
Caro scored on a hard shot from the top of the box, 22:45 into the game and ENMU's defense made the lead stand through intermission, despite being outshot by a slim 6-5 margin in the first half. Texas Woman's was unable to break through until a little more than 20 minutes remained in the second half, when Nancy Chavez scored off a cross pass from Chelsea Martin. Megan Coppedge tallied the game-winner off a rebound with 8:28 left in regulation.
The Eastern New Mexico University women's soccer team will return to action tomorrow, at Texas A&M-Commerce. The game is scheduled to begin at 12 p.m. MT.
