CANYON, TEXAS — Freshman
Baylee Hampton staked the Eastern New Mexico University women's soccer team (4-13-1; LSC 0-10) to a quick lead, with her first goal coming 3:23 into Friday night's game at West Texas A&M. Although Eastern held the Lady Buffs (8-9-1; LSC 4-5-1) scoreless through the first half, WT rallied for a 3-1 win over the Greyhounds, in Lone Star Conference action at The Pitch.
With the win, The Lady Buffs earned their first season sweep over Eastern since the 2012 season. WT posted a 6-1-1 mark at home this season. Entering the season, ENMU was 3-0-1 against WT in the previous four meetings. Last season marked the Hounds' first road win over West Texas A&M.
Karyn Forbes tallied the go-ahead goal for the Lady Buffs 12:17 in to the second half. Her goal was sandwiched around a pair of Haley Girard scores, the first of which tied the match, 1:12 into the second half.
The Lady Buffs held an 8-4 edge in shots on goal.
Melissa Moxley,
Tori Hendrickson, and
Vanessa Gallegos each had a shot on goal for the Hounds.
Karissa Stinson made five saves for ENMU, while Courtney Dippel had three saves for the Lady Buffs.
The Eastern New Mexico University women's soccer team will enter next week's Lone Star Conference tournament as the six seed and will open the tournament against the third seed.
