PORTALES, N.M. — The Eastern New Mexico University baseball team dropped to 2-1 on the season after falling to Adams State University (1-5) in the last game of a three game series.
Blake Cooper (Sr., Long Beach, Calif. / Long Beach Wilson HS / Golden West College) continued his explosive play from the plate, recording two hits and one homerun in the contest. Cooper now has two homeruns on the season.
Charles Sandberg Jr. (Jr., Bradenton, Fla. /State College of Fla.) also played struck the ball well Sunday, recording two hits and an RBI in four at bats.
Julian Heredia (So., Las Cruces, N.M. / New Mexico State University) and
Dylan Nault (Jr., Anaheim, Calif. /Cypress College) also added an RBI each.
Kiegan Basso (So., Peoria, Ariz. /Centennial HS) was credited with the loss for the outing, going four innings from the mound with three strikeouts.
Zach Shank (Fr., Gallup, N.M. /Oklahoma Baptist University) came in as relief, allowing only on earned run and recording eight strikeouts.
Eastern recorded nine hits in the game, one more than Adams State, but failed to string any hits together. Costly errors by the Greyhounds and a hitting streak from the Grizzlies in the third inning put Adams State on top 3-1 in the game, a deficit Eastern would never recover from.
Eastern will travel to Las Vegas, N.M., for a three game series against New Mexico Highlands University Feb. 13-15. The Greyhounds took 2-of-3 games against the Cowboys at home in Portales last season and will look to continue that success this season.
