Three ‘Hounds Post Double-Digit Kills As Volleyball Sweeps Cameron

PORTALES, N.M. – The Eastern New Mexico University volleyball team picked up its fourth-straight 3-0 (25-21, 25-22, 25-21) sweep, besting Cameron in Lawton, Okla., on Saturday afternoon. The win gives the Greyhounds a 14-10 record on the season and a 9-5 mark in conference play and the four-straight sweeps are the most by an ENMU volleyball team since the 2001 team recorded five-straight. With 14 victories on the season, Eastern has recorded the most wins since the historic 2004 campaign.

"Our serve-receive and our back-row defense was phenomenal," ENMU Head Coach Sia Poyer said. "Andrea Aguilar, Talaitupu Faumui and Courtney Lawson had excellent ball control which makes it easier for our setters to do their jobs and allows our hitters to pick up kills. I'm very proud of us. This was our best road weekend thus far."

The defensive trio Poyer mentioned combined for 43 of the team's 57 digs on the match. Lawson recorded a double-double while adding 10 kills. Lauren Frye picked up 23 kills in the three-set win, the third-highest mark in program history after she broke the previous record against West Texas earlier this season. The senior outside hitter picked up nine kills in the first set and seven kills in each of the subsequent sets to hit .514 on the match. Brooklyn Biel added 14 kills to go along with a .600 hitting percentage, matching the highest attack percentage set by the Greyhounds this year. Alexis Aguirre and Kaitlyn Kluna each tallied 20+ assists in the match. Aguirre had 27 while Kluna added 21 to set the table for the offense.

The Greyhounds return to the court on Tuesday, Nov. 1 when they host UTPB at Greyhound Arena. First serve is slated for 6 p.m. For the latest news, follow @ENMUAthletics on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram and visit goeasternathletics.com.
