LAWTON, Okla. – The Eastern New Mexico University men's basketball team logged its fourth-straight Lone Star Conference win with an 81-73 come-from-behind win over Cameron on Saturday at Aggie Gym in Lawton. It marks the first time since January of 2004 that the Greyhounds have won four-straight LSC games. ENMU improves to 12-14 overall and 6-10 in LSC action following the win.
Â
"I think the best teams historically in the LSC expect to win close games," ENMU Head Coach
Tres Segler said. "We've tried all year to outwork people so that we can earn the right to feel that too. Being in close games at Tarleton, at Midwestern have prepared us for night's like tonight. I'm so proud of my leaders.
Chris Wyms was a warrior once again and LA Thompson pulling down 15 rebounds really kept control of the game in some big moments. Free throw shooting tonight helped seal the game and I'm so proud of my kid's confidence and expectations to win."
Â
Eastern was led by junior guard
Lamarquis Thompson who reeled in his first double-double in an ENMU uniform with 19 points and 15 rebounds. The Houston, Texas native went 7-of-6 from the field and 4-of-4 from the charity stripe to pace the 'Hounds. Junior guard
Joe Clarke continued his strong close to the season, scoring 18 points and grabbing seven rebounds while senior guard
Chris Wyms scored 11 points, including six in overtime, to help secure the win. Senior
Javaan Mumtaz also produced 10 points in the thriller.

The Greyhounds withstood a strong surge by Cameron to open the game as the Aggies opened up the contest shooting 80%+ from the floor over the first five minutes, stretching the lead to as many as 11. The Green and Silver would respond, however, pulling to within one on a number of occasions before going into the half down four.
Â
After claiming its first lead of the game early in the second half, the advantage changed hands twice in the final minute. It appeared as if ENMU would hold the lead following a Thompson steal and easy lay in to take the lead, but the Aggies would respond with a three pointer to take a two-point edge with 30 seconds to go. Following a timeout, Clarke was able to drive the lane and draw contact, earning a trip to the free throw line with 6.5 seconds left, making both shots to force overtime.
Â
In the extra period, after Cameron knocked down its first shot, the 'Hounds defense did not surrender another made field goal. ENMU closed the game on an 11-1 run. Thompson nailed a three from the corner to give Eastern the lead for good while Wyms went 6-of-6 from the stripe to clinch the game.
Â
"I'm so proud of our defensive effort in overtime," Segler added. "We really crashed the glass and limited their second chance opportunities. We had some key blocked shots from the helpside defenders that support our belief on how to play team defense. Once again, we had a great group of fans travel to see us play. It was so much fun having a large mob of green at our backs again."

The Greyhounds return to the court on Thursday, Feb. 23 against Angelo State. Tipoff is slated for 7:30 p.m. against the Rams in Greyhound Arena. For the latest news on all ENMU athletics, visit GoEasternAthletics.com.
