EL PASO, TEXAS – Eastern New Mexico saw live game action for the first time in the 2019-20 season in an 84-64 exhibition loss against UTEP on Saturday afternoon.
The Hounds shot 47.2 percent (25-of-53) from the field and had 16 points from junior
Natalie DeLonge against the Division I Miners. Sophomore
Zamorye Cox hit 2-of-3 attempts from three-point range to finish next on the team with 14 points while senior
Alivia Lewis recorded eight rebounds to lead the rebounding effort for the Greyhounds.
Freshman
Taylor Hall also provided a bright spot for the Hounds with 14 points in her first collegiate basketball action, making four-of-seven shots from the field.
The Miners made four three pointers in the first quarter of action to jump out to an early 23-17 lead. The Hounds connected on over 50 percent (7-of-12) of their shot attempts in the opening frame, but couldn't match the three-point shooting from the Miners.
That advantage was extended out to 41-29 at the halftime break, and UTEP never looked back despite Eastern New Mexico matching their third quarter scoring output with 15 points.
The Miners forced the Greyhounds into 26 turnovers for the contest, recording 14 steals as a team. Eastern New Mexico combated that with five blocks as a team, including three from Lewis.
The Greyhounds will continue exhibition play in preparation for the 2019-20 regular season tomorrow afternoon against another Division I opponent in Arizona at 4 p.m.
