Eastern New Mexico Receives Votes in AFCA National Coaches' Poll

PORTALES, N.M. – Eastern New Mexico returned to the receiving votes category of the 2019 AFCA Division II Coaches' Poll following Saturday night's upset win over #21 Angelo State.

The Hounds have received votes in six different weeks this season and return to the category following an overtime win against Angelo State that snapped a two game losing streak for Eastern New Mexico. The Lone Star Conference was represented in the poll by five teams as Tarleton State (no. 3) and Texas A&M-Commerce (no. 23) each received rankings and West Texas A&M, Angelo State and Eastern New Mexico all received votes.

The Hounds rank second in total offense (442.8 ppg) and fourth in total defense (363.9 ppg) this season and rank second in Division II football with an average of 370.3 rushing yards per game. That rushing attack has been led all season by senior Paul Terry, who recently broke the record for most rushing yards in a single season in program history with 1,681 on 292 carries for the year.

Eastern New Mexico's win over Angelo State moved their overall record to 6-4 on the season and they finished the 2019 conference slate with a record of 4-4. The Greyhounds currently sit in fifth place in the conference standings and have a chance to move into a tie for fourth place barring the results of the West Texas A&M and Midwestern State match-up this weekend.

The Hounds will conclude the 2019 regular season this Saturday with a road game at Western Oregon. Kickoff for that contest is scheduled for 2 p.m. MST.
