Volleyball Tripped Up Against Texas A&M-Kingsville, 3-0

The Greyhounds battled for every set, but weren't able take a set from the Javelinas

KINGSVILLE, TEXAS – Eastern New Mexico Volleyball were in contention for every set but fell 3-0 against Texas A&M-Kingsville on Saturday afternoon at the Gil E. Steinke Physical Education Center. Eastern fall to 12-12 on the campaign, with a conference record of 3-9. The Javelinas boost their record to 13-8, with a 5-3 standing.

Both teams started the match back and forth, setting the score at 9-9. From that point, the Javelinas used a 6-1 burst to go ahead five points on the Greyhounds. Eastern did their best to overcome that five-point cushion, but the set finished in favor of Texas A&M-Kingsville 25-18.

The Greyhounds jumped in front in the opening stages of the second set, using a 4-0 swing to go up 11-10. TAMUK battled the lead back in their favor and prevented any rallies for ENMU to build up its point total. The Greyhounds came within on point of the Javelinas at 21-20 TAMUK, but a 4-1 streak ended the set (25-21).

Each team started the final set with small spurts of points, with both programs stopping any large runs. The Greyhounds eventually took a 12-10 lead but couldn't capitalize as the Javelinas sparked an 8-3 run to go up 18-15. From there, Eastern couldn't hold off the Javelinas with the home team taking the final set, 25-20.
