Women's Basketball Head to Cameron and West Texas A&M this weekend

PORTALES, N.M. – After returning to the win column, Eastern New Mexico Women's basketball hit the road against Cameron University on Thursday, Feb. 10, with a 4:30 p.m. (MST) tip-off. Then, the Hounds head to Canyon, Texas to battle West Texas A&M University on Saturday, Feb. 12, with a scheduled tip-off of 1 p.m. (MST).

ON THE AIR

Both games will be broadcast on the radio, Thursday game will be broadcast on AM 1450, while Saturday's game with be on 105.9 KSEL-FM and KSELCountry.com with Donald "Doc" Elder calling the action. Games will also be broadcast on 106.5 KEND in Roswell and Artesia.

LAST TIME OUT

ENMU enter the week after knocking off Oklahoma Christian University, 86-76, on Monday, Feb. 7, at Greyhound Arena. The Hounds offense supplied its highest scoring game of the season, behind the career high 28 points from Iyanna McCurdy.

SCOUTING THE HOUNDS

Eastern currently hold a 9-9 record and a 5-7 record in Lone Star Conference (LSC) play. After its highest scoring game, the Greyhounds are scoring 62.0 points per game (ppg), while allowing 65.9 ppg. Percentage wise, ENMU is shooting 36.7% from the field, 25.0% from range, and 65.7% at a distance. On the glass, Eastern pull down 40.7 rebounds per game (rpg), dish out 9.1 assists per game (apg), find 9.1 steals per game (spg), and post 2.1 blocks per game (bpg).
 
McCurdy has emerged as the teams leading scorer and rebounder, with 13.8 ppg and 7.9 ppg. Not far behind, Natalie Stice averages 13.3 ppg and 5.6 rpg (2nd on team in both). MeMe Amand adds 8.4 ppg and 5.4 rpg to the Hounds effort. Bella Stone leads the team with 1.8 apg and 1.8 spg, while Kamirah Decker is the team leader in blocks with 0.7 bpg.
 
Statistically speaking, ENMU ranks fourth in the LSC for rebounding and 3rd rebounding margin, with 40.5 rpg and a rebounding margin of +4.4 rpg. Individually, McCurdy is 10th in the conference for scoring with 13.8 ppg and tied 5th for rebounding with 7.9 rpg. McCurdy also holds the sixth best field goals percentage at 44.7% shooting, with Stice standing in tied 8th for three-point field goals made per game with 1.7.

SCOUTING THE COMPETITION 

Cameron University
 
The Aggies come into Thursday's game after losing 92-69 to #7 Texas A&M-Commerce on Tuesday, Feb. 8. Overall, Cameron have a 12-6 record and sit near the top of the LSC with a 7-2 conference record.

CU are one of the top scoring teams in the nation with 78.8 ppg, ranking 2nd in the conference and 13th in all of Division II. The Aggies are highly efficient, posting 41.5% shooting percentage, 34.7 % from range (2nd in conference), and 75.7% at the charity stripe (2nd in conference). Cameron produce 35.3 rpg, and sits near the top of the conference for assists (14.7, 5th in the conference) and steals (12.7, 1st in the conference), along with 2.8 bpg.

Maighan Hedge is one of the top scorers in the nation with 22.4 ppg, leading the conference and 3rd in all of Division II. Stephanie Peterson is an impact player with 14.1 ppg and leading the team with 7.0 rpg. Korie Allensworth is adding 10.3 ppg, and Kate King contributes 9.8 ppg.

West Texas A&M University
 
The Lady Buffs are one of the top teams in the conference with a 7-2 record in the LSC and an overall standing of 14-9. Most recently, WT won comfortably 62-47 against Angelo State on Feb. 5.

West Texas A&M are posting 67.8 ppg (4th in LSC) and holding opponents to 61.8 ppg (5th in LSC). WT are posting a field goal percentage of 36.0%, 27.7% from behind the arc, and 71.4% at the free throw line. Collectively, the Lady Buffs find 43.7 rpg (2nd in conference), 11.6 apg, 8.8 spg, and 4.2 bpg (3rd in the conference).

The Lady Buffs are led by Zamorye Roberts, scoring 12.5 ppg, and posting 2.5 apg and 2.3 spg (6th in the conference). Karly Motschenbacher is next in scoring, with 9.9 ppg and adding 7.9 rpg (tied 5th in LSC), while AlivialLewis is just behind in 9.8 ppg and lead the team with 8.4 rpg (3rd in conference). Lewis also is the team leader in blocks with 2.0 bpg, 3rd in conference.
