Greyhounds take on two teams near the top of the LSC

PORTALES, N.M. – After finishing 1-1 in its last road trip, Eastern New Mexico Woman's Basketball hit the road again with a pair of opponents at the top of the Lone Star Conference. First, Eastern will take on Lubbock Christian University on Thursday, Jan. 12, with first tip set for 4:30 p.m. Then, ENMU head to Canyon, Texas to battle #20 West Texas A&M on Saturday, Jan. 14, with game time set for 12 p.m.

LAST TIME OUT

Eastern New Mexico come into the weekend with after picking up a road win over Cameron, 55-42. Edecia Beck supplied 15 points and nine rebounds during the win, going 8-10 at the foul line. The Greyhounds followed with a tough loss against Midwestern State, 83-77. Deja Adrian posted a double-double with a career best in points (28 points) and rebounds (11 rebounds).

SCOUTING THE HOUNDS

The Greyhounds hold a 7-6 record overall with a 4-4 LSC standing. Entering the weekend, the Greyhounds average 65.7 points per game (ppg) and allow 60.7 ppg. ENMU holds a 35.2% field goal percentage, 29.1% shooting from three-point range, and 73.0% at the foul line. Eastern average 42.2 rebounds per game (rpg), 10.0 assists per game (apg), and 10.2 steals per game (spg).
 
The Greyhounds have a balanced scoring threat, with four different student-athletes averaging over 8.0 ppg. Adrian paces the Greyhounds in scoring with 17.2 ppg and Beck provides 11.4 ppg. Both Adrian and Beck also lead the rebounding effort with 7.5 rpg and 6.0 rpg. Ashley Shipley adds 9.3 ppg and 5.8 rpg, while Bella Stone leads the offense with 3.2 apg and helps on defense with a team best 1.9 spg.
 
Around the conference, ENMU pull down the third most rebounds per game 42.2 rpg, and create the 4th most steals in the LSC with 10.2 per game. Individually, Adrian is the second leading scorer in the conference (17.2 ppg) and is 5th in the LSC for field goal percentage (.438). Beck is second in the conference for free throw percentage, converting 50 of 53 attempts (.943).

SCOUTING THE LADY CHAPS

Lubbock Christian enters this weekend with a 11-5 overall record, along with 6-2 conference record, and a 3-1 standing in West Division play. Recently, the Chapparals were dealt a 53-51 defeat against Angelo State on a buzzer-beater, while picking up a win over UT Permian Basin, 73-60.
 
This season, the Lady Chaps hold several top five marks in the LSC this season as a group. LCU are scoring 70.9 ppg (2nd in the conference) and are only allowing 60.1 ppg (5th best in LSC). In shooting percentages, the Lady Chaps are top-five in each area of the floor: 43.0% (2nd in LSC), 33.2% from three-point range (3rd in LSC) and are leading the conference in free throw percentage (76.3%). Additionally, LCU secure 38.8 rebounds per game, dish out 13.4 assists per game (4th in LSC), 7.3 spg, and hold 3.5 blocks per game (5th in the conference).
 
The Chapparals have several key players, with Grace Foster leading the program in scoring (15.4 ppg, 5th in LSC) and rebounds (9.2 rpg, 1st in conference), along with the 3rd best free throw percentage in the LSC (90.5%). Maci Maddox runs the offense with a team best 4.7 apg (3rd in LSC), adding 10.8 ppg. Audrey Robertson contributes and important 12.1 ppg and 5.4 rpg.

SCOUTING THE #20 LADY BUFFS

West Texas A&M are currently the #20 team in the nation, based on the latest Division II Woman's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) poll (the Lady Buffs have been as high as #2 in the national poll). WT split their last weekend of games, falling to Angelo State, 60-53, and beating UT Permian Basin, 81-54, standing at 13-3 overall and 6-2 in LSC play. The Lady Buffs play Western New Mexico on Thursday, Jan. 12, before playing the Greyhounds.

The Lady Buffs are the top scoring team in the LSC, scoring 71.6 ppg and allow just 58.3 ppg (4th in LSC). WT hold a field goal percentage of 41.5%, along with a 3PTFG% of 33.5% (2nd best in LSC), and 74.4% at the charity stripe (2nd in LSC). West Texas A&M are one of the top rebounding teams in the LSC, finishing with 42.3 rpg (2nd in LSC), and only allowing 33.3 rpg (3rd in LSC). The Lady Buffs also provide 12.2 apg, 6.4 spg, and 4.0 bpg.
 
WT are very balanced in their scoring, with seven different players averaging over 6.0 points per game. Karley Motschenbacher leads the team with 12.2 ppg, 2.3 spg, and is 2nd on the team in assists (2.3 apg) and rebounds (7.0 rpg). Nyalam Thabach paces the team with 7.4 rpg, adds 9.1 ppg, and provides 1.4 blocks per game (4th in LSC). Azia Himeur is a great three-point shooter, leading the team in three's made this season, with a 3PTFG% of 36.3% (3rd in LSC).
