WBB Starting Five: Colorado State-Pueblo and UCCS

The Greyhounds return to Colorado for their final non-conference games of the season.

PORTALES, N.M. – Eastern New Mexico Women's Basketball will spend their Thanksgiving Weekend in Colorado, playing a pair of RMAC opponents to close non-conference play. First, the Greyhounds will stop in Pueblo to face CSU-Pueblo on Friday, Nov. 24, with a 5:30 p.m. start time. Then, ENMU trek to Colorado Springs to battle the Mountain Lions of UCCS on Saturday, Nov. 25, starting at 5 p.m.

LAST TIME OUT

The Greyhounds split their last weekend in Colorado, beating Adams State, 70-58, and dropping a road contest to Western Colorado, 64-58. In the win over Adams State, ENMU shot 46.4% from the floor behind a career best 21 points from Jaz Salon. In the defeat to Western Colorado, the Mountaineers shot 51.3% from the field, and 50.0% from three-point range. Both Deja Adrian and Jamila Nansikombi-Gunter each had over 15 points in the loss.

SCOUTING THE GREYHOUNDS

Following the opening four games, ENMU stand at 3-1 overall scoring 69.0 points per game (ppg) and holding opponents to 60.8 ppg, holding a scoring margin of +8.2. The Greyhounds have been efficient on offense to start the season, shooting 43.7% from the field. From three-point range ENMU are shooting 31.6%, while sporting a 73.5% free throw percentage. ENMU gathers 37.3 rebounds per game (rpg), hand out 10.3 assists per game (apg), while controlling 12.0 steals per game (spg).
 
Nansikombi-Gunter has been the Greyhounds main scorer after the first four games, scoring 17.0 ppg on 50.8% shooting from the field. Deja Adrian's 15.3 ppg has been key for Eastern, while Vanessa Oduah (11.8 ppg) and Salon (11.0 ppg) add to the offense. Oduah paces the team for both rebounds and assists this season (7.3 rpg and 2.5 apg), with Nansikombi-Gunter adding a team best 3.0 spg.
 
In the Lone Star Conference (LSC), Eastern are 4th in the conference for field goal percentage (43.7%) and 2nd in the LSC for steals per game (12.0 spg). Nationally, Eastern is top-20 in the nation for forcing turnovers in a single game (24.75, 18th best in the nation). Individually, Adrian is 5th in the LSC for field goal percentage (53.3%) and Nansikombi-Gunter is 3rd in the conference for steals per game (3.0 spg).

SCOUTING THE THUNDERWOLVES

CSU-Pueblo sit at 2-3 heading into the Thanksgiving holiday. The Thunderwolves have won two of its last three games, beating Langston (69-64) and #7 UT Tyler (59-58).

The Thunderwolves offense has provided 62.2 ppg, while giving up 73.4 ppg. CSU-Pueblo does most of their damage in the paint, shooting 37.0% from the floor, with just 22.7% shooting from three. The Thunderwolves are also effective at the foul line, shooting 75.7% from the charity stripe. CSU-P standout in the blocking department, posting 5.8 blocks per game, leading the RMAC and standing in 16th in the nation. Additionally, the Thunderwolves secure 39.6 rpg, adding 12.2 apg and 9.0 spg.

Alisha Little paces the offense with 18.6 ppg in 33.4 minutes per game. Little is also the team leading rebounder, 10.2 rpg, averaging a double-double in the opening five games. Along with scoring and rebounding, Little is the team's leader with 18 blocks this season. Leilani Love (11.8 ppg) and Autumn Watts (10.0 ppg) also reach double-figures for scoring, while Tomia Johnson runs the offense with a team best 23 assists.

SCOUTING THE MOUNTAIN LIONS

UCCS sport a 2-2 record following the opening two weeks of the season. Recently, the Mountain Lions dropped a home contest to #15 Regis (CO), 71-55. Before that, UCCS won its home opener with Point Loma, 72-66.

UC-Colorado Springs scores 68.5 ppg and give up 69.0 ppg. The Mountain Lions slash .440 FG/.274 3PT/.638 FT for percentages. UCCS get to the foul line frequently, averaging 26.25 free throw attempts per game (Best in RMAC, 15th in Division II). The team pulls down 36.8 rpg, dish out 9.8 apg, collect 7.0 spg, and find 4.3 bpg.

Maison White leads the team with 15.0 ppg and 9.5 rpg, providing two double-doubles in their opening four games. The rest of the Mountain Lions scoring comes from Rylie Ottmann (9.5 ppg), Amyah Moore Allen (9.3 ppg), Krystina Hagood (8.5 ppg), and Emily Vidal (8.3 ppg). Vidal leads the team in assists with nine assists in the opening four games.
