PORTALES, N.M. – Head football coach Kelley Lee is bringing in Jordan Hendy to serve as the football program's defensive backs coach. Hendy brings good experience at the Division II level to the Greyhounds.
"I am excited for the opportunity to learn and grow with this staff and these incredible young men," said Hendy on being named the defensive backs coach. "Our goal as defensive backs is to go 1-0 each day inside of football and in our daily lives."
Hendy began his playing career at the College of San Mateo in 2017 where he played in nine games and registered 24 tackles, nine pass breakups, three interceptions. Two of his picks were returned for touchdowns.
He transferred to the University of Toledo for the 2018 and 2019 season. In his second season as a Rocket, he had eight tackles and an interception in 11 games.
The Sunnyvale, California native played his final season of collegiate football at DII Pittsburg State where he was a third team all-MIAA honoree. In 2021, he finished with 32 tackles, six pass deflections, and three interceptions over eleven games. Hendy helped the Gorillas go 8-3 that season.
Although his playing career finished up, he decided to stay at Pitt State as an offensive graduate assistant. In 2022, the Gorillas went 12-1 and went undefeated in conference play. They shutout Indianapolis, 35-0, in their first game of the NCAA DII playoffs before falling to eventual champion Ferris State, 17-14, in the second round. He helped develop three offensive linemen to earn all-MIAA selections, including a first team All-American.
"Jordan is an excellent addition to our program and I know he will do well here," said head coach Kelley Lee on the addition to the team. "He comes to us from a very talented program in Pitt State where he played and served as a coach."
Hendy earned a bachelor's degree in integrated studies – sustainability, society, and resource management at Pittsburg State.
