RICHARDSON, Texas – After a career day Saturday afternoon,
Ron Craten convinced the Lone Star Conference to honor him as the LSC offensive player of the week.
"Ron has been having a highly productive season and we are all thrilled that he was honored for his outstanding performance versus WNMU," said head coach
Kelley Lee when asked about Craten. "He is a very humble and coachable young man who would be the first to praise his teammates for opening up some really nice holes this week."
The Oak Grove, La. native guided the nation's second best run game to its second-best performance of the season.
Craten led the team with 26 carries for 216 yards and three touchdowns. He averaged 8.3 yards per carry and helped ENMU accumulate 495 yards on the ground.
ENMU won the Chile Bowl for the first time since 2021 with the 41-34 win. The Greyhounds ran into the endzone six times with half of them credited to the graduate student.
Craten now has four games with two or more rushing touchdowns and leads the conference in rushing touchdowns (11), rushing yards (771), rushing yards per game (110.1), scoring (9.1), and total points scored (66). He is the first Hound to rush for 200+ yards in a single game since Howard Russell did so in 2022.
Eastern New Mexico will now prepare for a conference game versus Sul Ross State in Alpine, Texas. The matchup is slated for November 2.
