VERNON, Texas – Both Eastern New Mexico University men's and women's rodeo programs took top ten finishes at Vernon College this weekend.
"We finished the season off strong with the most kids coming back so far," said assistant rodeo coach
Beau Dean. "They performed well."
Greyhound women have gone four-straight competitions in the top five after taking third.
The duo of
Tyra Tsosie and
Shacie Marr aided the Hounds in earning 165 team points. They finished just 15 points behind Weatherford College who took runner-up honors.
ENMU's best event of the weekend came in barrel racing. Marr split 3/4 in the long round with a 17.37s run. She followed that with a 17.62s time Saturday night to take fourth in that round and fourth in the average. Overall, she finished with 95 points in the event alone.
Both Marr and Tsosie made it back in the goats. Tsosie's 7.9s finish in the long round helped her lock up the seventh spot to advance to Saturday night. She split 4/5/6 with an 8.7s in the short go. Her efforts helped her secure fifth in the average and a total of 40 points. Marr split 3/4/5 in the long round on a 7.7s run. She did not score in the short go and added 30 points to the total team score.
ENMU's finish in Vernon puts them in fourth place in the southwest region.
Zachary Townsend performed well for Greyhound men's rodeo. He made it back after splitting 1/2 in steer wrestling. Townsend did not score in the short go to finish with 55 total points locking in a ninth-place nod for his team.
Another Greyhound not in the team score made it back to the short go in breakaway.
Ali Terry split 4/5/6 with a 3.7s run and split 6/7/8 in the average.
Eastern New Mexico is now done with the fall portion of the 2024-25 campaign. The competition gets going again in four months as the race to qualify for nationals in Casper, Wyo. continues.
