Box Score KINGSVILLE, Texas – Eastern New Mexico football finished the season with a 28-13 defeat to Texas A&M-Kingsville. ENMU completes the year with a 3-8 (1-8 LSC) record.
Eastern started the game with the ball and got a couple seven-yard chunk plays to begin the series. However, the TAMUK defense proved why they are one of the most effective units in the Lone Star Conference and forced Eastern to punt.
The early stop helped the Javelinas make a quick statement offensively. The home side ran six-straight plays in-a-row and scored the game's first touchdown. Texas A&M-Kingsville forced Eastern to punt but committed a penalty by running into the punter (
Ryan Travis). The drive extender did not last long as ENMU was forced to punt again.
On the first play of the second quarter, the Hounds forced the Javelinas to fumble the ball in the redzone. However, the momentum did not stay on ENMU's side as a three-and-out and lengthy punt return for TAMUK gave ideal field position to the program in blue and white.
Texas A&M-Kingsville scored their second touchdown of the game four plays later with another rush.
Once again, ENMU went three-and-out on the next sequence. After a deep 52-yard punt by
Ryan Travis, TAMUK began the next drive inside their own 10-yard line. After back-to-back first downs and getting the ball inside Greyhound territory, the host team had their eyes set on extending the lead before halftime intermission. Eastern had a prayer answered as
Dylan Gordon picked up his second interception of the season.
Both teams would end up trading possessions just before the half with TAMUK holding a 14-0 lead.
The Javelinas began the third quarter on a strong note with optimal field possession eventually leading to a touchdown to extend the team's advantage, 21-0.
On the next two drives, Eastern New Mexico finally found some offensive momentum. The Greyhounds converted three third down attempts before sophomore
Elijah Zeh pushed into the endzone for a two-yard score.
TAMUK answered with a scoring drive of their own to extend their lead, 28-7.
ENMU managed to push through for another touchdown scoring drive. Zeh got his second touchdown of the night to get the visitors within 28-13. However, there was only 7:18 left on the clock.
Zeh finished the game with 18 carries for 78 yards and the two scores. It is his first multi-touchdown game since a road win over Lincoln (Mo.) in 2023.
Kamauri Montgomery,
Gerry Gomez, and Zeh all caught passes for ENMU.
Zerrian Meander led the program with twelve tackles, including a pass breakup and a forced fumble.
Isaac Medrano had double digit tackles (10) for the first time in his collegiate career.
ENMU ended up securing 110 of their 214 total yards in the final quarter of the contest.
The Greyhounds will now look toward the 2025 season.
