RICHARDSON, Texas — Following a pair of home wins, Eastern New Mexico Women's Basketball's Jayla Smith has been named Lone Star Conference (LSC) Defensive Player of the Week, as announced by the conference office on Monday afternoon. Smith becomes the first Greyhound to win a player of the week honor under head coach Blake Huber, and the first Greyhound since Treyanna Clay (2/18/19) to win a conference player of the week honor.

The senior guard pulled down 9.0 rebounds per game during the week and averaged 14.5 points during two wins against South-Central Region opponents. To begin the week, Smith finished with a season high nine rebounds from the bench, leading the Greyhounds to a 65-62 win over Adams State. Smith finished +16 in the game, leading the team in +/- during the win against the Grizzlies.

Then, the Detroit, Mich. native scored a game-high 20 points, and nine rebounds as Eastern knocked off (RV) West Texas A&M during the conference opener, 74-57. Smith helped the Greyhounds hold the Lady Buffs to a season low 36.2 field goal percentage, in ENMU's largest victory over WT since 2003.

Eastern continues its six game home stand this Saturday, November 30, against Oklahoma Panhandle State. First tip from Steve Loy Family Foundation Arena is scheduled for 2 p.m.
