RICHARDSON, Texas — Leading the team to its best start in program history, Eastern New Mexico Women's Basketball's
Ishuana Hunter has been named Lone Star Conference (LSC) Defensive Player of the Week, as announced by the conference office on Monday morning. Hunter becomes the third different Greyhound to win the weekly honor this season, joining
Jayla Smith (Nov. 25) and
Trinity Hudson (Dec. 9). Hunter's award marks the first time ENMU has had three different student-athletes win an LSC weekly award in a single season, based on available records.
The senior forward made their mark in the Greyhounds 56-48 road victory over Texas A&M-Kingsville. Hunter had a team high of 18 points, 8 rebounds, and three steals. Hunter's eight rebounds, with seven of those boards coming from the defensive end, were a new season high. The team held TAMUK to its lowest scoring total of the season, while the Javelinas only shot 40.1% from the field and 0.0% from three-point range. So far this season, Hunter's 2.0 steals per game is 4
th in the LSC, as the Greyhounds defense leads the LSC with 13.09 spg, and is 3
rd in scoring defense (54.0 ppg).
The Greyhounds return to the court following the holiday break in Division I exhibition with UTEP on Monday, December 30, beginning at 7 p.m. ENMU returns to LSC play at home on Friday, January 3, welcoming Top 25 Lubbock Christian to Steve Loy Family Foundation Arena.
