PORTALES, N.M. – Eastern New Mexico University rodeo competes in Sweetwater, Texas as they travel to Ranger College for the next competition of the 2024 spring season. Before the Greyhounds hit the road, please read the Three Barrel Preview:
1.) Short-Go Success: ENMU is coming off one of their better rodeos of the 2023-24 season as the men's side finished in eighth and women's program finished tied for sixth at Odessa College last month.
Shacie Marr and
Jordyn Everson helped the University score points in the event. On the men's team,
Blase Steffen,
Beau Dean,
Tyson Mackenzie, and
Rowdy Norwood all earned valuable points. The performance marked the third time out of six rodeos this season that both squads earned points. ENMU's women holds three top-five finishes and the men have finished eighth or better twice. The other time came at the Sul Ross State rodeo.
2.) Ranger Danger: Eastern New Mexico women took fifth at last season's Ranger College rodeo. Current Hounds
Greeley Eastep and
Shacie Marr both scored points in the 2023 event. They held strong finishes in the goat tying to give the program a high place.
Zachary Townsend had one of his best rodeos of his freshman campaign last season in Sweetwater, Texas. He scored big points in the steer wrestling to give the men's team much needed points. If Marr makes the short-go this weekend, it will be her third time doing so in Sweetwater as she made it her freshman season as well, but just missed the cut her sophomore campaign.
3.) Sweet Home Sweetwater: The Greyhounds hold 38 entries in this week's competition. Those events include tiedown roping (5), breakaway (9), steer wrestling (3), goat tying (6), barrel racing (8), and team roping (7).
Rowdy Norwood (steer wrestling) and
Tabby Tomlinson (goat tying) earned a bid to compete in the Friday night performance. The two will represent the Greyhounds as Ranger College welcomes fans to watch the student-athletes compete in the second rodeo of the spring 2024 slate.
