PORTALES, N.M. – Eastern New Mexico University rodeo is set to travel to Howard College for their ninth competition of the season. Before ENMU hits the road, please take a look at the Three Barrel Preview:
1.) Top Finishers: The women's program finished in sixth at the Western Texas College rodeo while the men stood tied for ninth in the field.
Shacie Marr split fifth and sixth in the goat tying with an excellent 6.8s run. Her 7.1s result Saturday night kept her in contention for fifth overall. Marr also earned points by partnering with
Justin McCormick in team roping as they had runs of 5.8s and 23.8s. She earned enough points to be named the all-around winner at the WTC event.
Blase Steffen made the short-go in team roping, but was unable to pickup any points from either round. One of the toughest events week in and week out is breakaway and
Greeley Eastep shined with a 3.9s run. Lastly, steer wrestling proved to be a solid event for ENMU with
Zachary Townsend (4.7s) and
Rowdy Norwood (6.3s) posting reputable runs.
2.) In The Region: The men's team ranks 13
th in the southwest region while the women's team holds the 7
th place ranking.
Shacie Marr is rated the second best goat tier in the region.
Zachary Townsend ranks 13
th among steer wrestlers in the region. Marr sits 125 points away from first in the region while Townsend is 315 points away from that nod. The final two chances to advance to nationals come with rodeos in Big Spring, Texas and Stephenville, Texas over the next two weeks.
3.) Big Spring Outlook: Eastern New Mexico University will see 43 entries in the rodeo this weekend. Thursday night's performance will feature
Gracie Hillrud,
Shaeden Marr,
Tabby Tomlinson, and
Ali Terry. Friday's performance will see
Zachary Townsend,
Bowdy Neece, and
Gracie Hillrud. The men took 11
th in each of the past two seasons while the women's team has not earned points at the event over that same time span.
